Processing Technician

Position Overview State of Connecticut, Department of Public Health (DPH) – Processing Technician, Licensing Unit, Practitioner Licensing Section (PLIS). The role focuses on processing applications for participation in interstate licensing compacts such as the Nurse Licensure Compact and the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact. Responsibilities Process applications for interstate licensure compacts. Examine incoming materials for accuracy, completeness, and conformance to state statutes and regulations. Make corrections or additions as needed. Devise follow‑up procedures to efficiently carry out activities. Initiate and maintain communication with internal and external resources to verify information and complete transactions. Interpret and apply state statutes and regulations related to the processing service. Make decisions on case status, transaction permissibility, or admissibility. Respond to internal and external inquiries for information and assistance. Set up and maintain office procedures, filing and indexing systems and forms for office use. Maintain calendars of due dates and initiate recurring work or special projects accordingly. Maintain records, logs, status or statistical reports related to processing functions. Assist in maintaining general files supporting processing functions. Initiate, type, and submit correspondence and documentation. Process fees and maintain financial records. Supervise lower‑level clerical employees as needed. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of office systems and procedures. Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. Ability to compose effective correspondence and forms. Read, comprehend, and apply laws, regulations, and procedural guidelines. Organize and coordinate workflow. Perform research assignments. Devise and maintain record‑keeping and filing systems. Examine documents for accuracy and completeness. Operate office equipment, including computers, tablets, and other electronic devices. Operate office suite software. Minimum Qualifications – General Experience Three (3) years of clerical work experience. Minimum Qualifications – Special Experience One (1) year of the general experience must have involved a full range of clerical duties. For state employees, this experience is interpreted at the level of an Office Assistant or Interpreter Clerk. Minimum Qualifications – Substitutions Allowed College training may be substituted for the general experience at a ratio of fifteen (15) semester hours to one‑half (½) year of experience, up to a maximum of two (2) years. Preferred Qualifications Experience organizing and coordinating workflows. Experience providing quality customer service via email, telephone, and in person. Experience applying laws, regulations, or procedural guidelines. Experience examining documents for accuracy and completeness. Experience creating and maintaining an electronic filing system. Experience with Microsoft Office programs for sharing documents electronically and using a shared database to perform and track tasks.
