Senior Mechanical Estimator – HVAC & Piping

Location: Phoenix, AZ
Salary: $80,000–$110,000 per year, depending on experience

About the Position

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Estimator with a strong background in HVAC and mechanical piping to join our team in Phoenix, Arizona.

The ideal candidate will have proven experience estimating commercial, industrial, or large-scale mechanical construction projects and be comfortable developing accurate, competitive estimates for projects valued at up to $50 million .

This is an excellent opportunity for an estimator who understands mechanical construction from both a technical and commercial perspective and wants to play a key role in winning major projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed estimates for HVAC, mechanical piping, and related mechanical systems .
• Review drawings, specifications, bid documents, and project requirements.
• Perform quantity takeoffs for equipment, ductwork, piping, insulation, fittings, valves, and other mechanical materials.
• Develop accurate labor, material, equipment, subcontractor, and overall project cost estimates.
• Prepare estimates for projects ranging from smaller commercial work to projects valued at $50 million or more .
• Solicit and evaluate pricing from vendors, subcontractors, and suppliers.
• Analyze subcontractor and supplier proposals for scope, exclusions, and pricing accuracy.
• Identify potential risks, scope gaps, and cost-saving opportunities.
• Develop detailed bid proposals and supporting documentation.
• Work closely with project managers, engineers, vendors, and operations teams during the estimating and preconstruction process.
• Participate in bid reviews and turnover meetings.
• Assist with value engineering and constructability reviews.
• Maintain organized estimating documentation and historical cost data.
• Help develop competitive bid strategies and ensure estimates are submitted accurately and on schedule.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in mechanical estimating, preferably within commercial or industrial construction.
• Strong knowledge of HVAC systems and mechanical piping .
• Experience estimating large-scale mechanical construction projects.
• Proven ability to perform detailed material and labor takeoffs.
• Strong understanding of mechanical construction methods, materials, and installation costs.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, specifications, and construction documents.
• Experience with estimating software and/or digital takeoff platforms.
• Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience estimating projects valued at $10M–$50M+ .
• Experience with large commercial, industrial, healthcare, semiconductor, data center, or institutional projects.
• Experience with both HVAC and process/mechanical piping .
• Familiarity with BIM/Revit models and using digital drawings for takeoffs.
• Experience with major mechanical subcontractors, general contractors, or construction firms.
• Strong vendor and subcontractor relationships within the Phoenix market.
• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field is preferred but not required.
