Construction Inspection Specialist (Flex Staff)

We are an employer of choice, providing a challenging, progressive, and inclusive work environment which fosters personal leadership, career growth, and development for every employee.Job duties include:Conducting on-site inspections of construction, rehabilitation, and maintenance projects to verify compliance with approved design specifications, industry standards, safety codes, and applicable federal regulations.Documenting inspection results inclusive of deficiencies, deterioration, structural condition, deviations between design and execution of construction, required corrective actions, and any needed sampling.Reviewing contractor submittals, RFIs, shop drawings, and material certifications in coordination with engineers and project management teams.Monitoring construction progress, preparing and maintaining detailed daily reports, deficiency notices, project status reports, and technical recommendations.Inspecting and verifying construction materials and testing processes to ensure compliance with specifications and standards.Overseeing and coordinating field construction related services on projects, enforcing adherence to safety, environmental, quality control, and permitting requirements.Conducting site investigations, reviewing relevant data including maps, reports, test results, drawings, and others as required.Participating in pre-construction meetings, design reviews, technical assessments, safety meetings, and project closeout/punch list activities.Ensuring compliance with guidelines and regulations including permits, safety, etc. and delivering technical files and other technical documentation as required.Developing, training, and mentoring junior construction professionals, providing technical direction, and serving as a liaison between contractors, engineering staff, and client.Skills and abilities required include:Must be a U.S. citizen.Able to pass a federal background check.Proficient in interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, and contract documents.Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the construction process for large commercial, municipal, or federal projects.Strong organizational skills to balance and prioritize work.Excellent attention to detail.Familiar and comfortable to work on computers/tablets/phones.Strong technical writing and oral communication skills and ability to interface with contractors, engineers, and federal clients.Ability to work with multiple stakeholders.Ability to work independently in field conditions with minimal direction.Good interpersonal skills to cultivate relationships with colleagues, customers, and partners.Qualifications:High School DiplomaAt least 5 years of relevant construction experience.Domestic travel is required. Overseas travel is also possible.Preferred qualifications:Prior Federal or DoD project experience (NAVFAC, USACE, or Air Force CE) is highly desirable.Experience in vertical (facilities/buildings) and horizontal (utilities, waterfront, airfield, infrastructure) construction is desired.Knowledge of federal acquisition and contracting practices.Familiarity with UFGS specifications, UFC design criteria, and EM manuals.Familiarity with electronic systems such as eCMS, RMS/QCS, or other QA tools.OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety and HealthConstruction Quality Management (CQM) for ContractorsAmount of travel required: 100%Driving requirements: An appropriate and valid driver's license is required.EEO Statement: CDM Smith Inc. and its divisions and subsidiaries are an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer.
