English Teacher

Kannapolis City Schools is seeking an English Teacher. The position is a ten-month, full-time role with the North Carolina Teacher Salary Schedule plus a 9.5% supplement. Full state benefits package is provided. The teacher reports to the School Principal or his/her designee.

The successful candidate will be able to perform the following essential functions satisfactorily:

• Develops and implements comprehensive lesson plans that align with state standards and cover a diverse range of literary genres, including fiction, non-fiction, and drama.
• Instructs students in the mechanics of writing, including grammar, syntax, and style, across various modes such as argumentative, narrative, and expository.
• Facilitates classroom discussions and Socratic seminars to encourage critical thinking and deep analysis of complex texts.
• Evaluates student progress through a variety of formative and summative assessments, providing timely and constructive feedback on written and oral work.
• Differentiates instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, including students with IEPs, 504 plans, and English Language Learners (ELL).
• Manages classroom environment and student behavior effectively to ensure a safe, inclusive, and productive learning atmosphere.
• Collaborates with the English Department and multidisciplinary teams to align curriculum and share instructional strategies.
• Maintains accurate and complete records of student attendance, grades, and progress using the school's digital management system.
• Communicates regularly with parents, guardians, and school counselors regarding student achievement and social-emotional well-being.
• Integrates digital literacy and modern technology into the curriculum to prepare students for college and career-level research.
• Ability to perform non-instructional duties as assigned.

Physical requirements include occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force, regular speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel, repetitive motions, frequent sitting, and occasional standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling, and lifting.
