Controller

The Controller is a key member of the finance leadership team, responsible for overseeing all accounting operations across the health system. This role ensures financial integrity, regulatory compliance, and supports strategic initiatives aligned with the organization’s mission to deliver high-quality patient care. The Controller will bring deep healthcare finance experience and a strong understanding of the complexities of hospital and health system accounting. The Controller will serve as a financial advisor by collaborating with the Executive team to provide guidance and support on key financial matters, helping to drive informed decision-making aligned with the health system’s operational and strategic goals. Qualifications Education Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; Master’s degree preferred. Experience Minimum of eight (8) years progressive accounting experience, with at least 5 years in a healthcare environment (hospital, health system, or similar) required. Demonstrated knowledge in healthcare finance, including hospital financial reporting, third-party reimbursement, fund accounting, budgeting, treasury, audit, tax, accounts payable and payroll required. Experience with nonprofit healthcare organizations preferred. Knowledge of 340B program accounting and grant funding compliance preferred. Licensure/Certification/Registration Certified Public Accountant (CPA) required. Duties & Responsibilities Lead and manage the accounting department, including general ledger, accounts payable, payroll and financial reporting. Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness. Assist in formulating and administering approved general accounting practices for the organization as well as analyzing and interpreting data. Direct and control comprehensive budget preparations and cost data; develop clear and informative methods and media to present financial data, special projects and studies of a financial nature. Plan and conduct meetings, education and other interactions with staff to facilitate compliance with established practices, to implement new policies and to keep employees aware of changes and current standards. Lead initiatives to improve financial systems, reporting capabilities, and process efficiencies. Preparation of forecasts, annual preparation of a budget, assisting with the preparation of annual tax returns and treasury administration. Prepare consolidated financial statements and reports for executive leadership and the Board of Directors. Coordinate and manage external audits, including preparation of audit schedules and resolution of findings. Assist in the oversight of Federal and State level cost reports and assist with audits. Oversee the preparation and reconciliations monthly and for the annual audit as well as the review and recordation of journal entries required to reflect the monthly activity. Preparation and oversight of work papers supporting the monthly close process and month end balances as well as the monthly financial statements and related footnotes will be a responsibility along with ensuring compliance with all applicable laws, rules, and regulations. Work effectively and collaboratively with colleagues, physicians, and department heads. Effectively utilize strong organizational skills. Consistently display effective verbal communication skills. Proficient understanding and use of technology/PC skills required. Regularly exercise independent judgement.
