Maryland Judiciary Benefits (mdcourts.gov) About the Maryland Court System | Maryland Courts (mdcourts.gov) salaryrangesfy27.pdf Essential Job Functions The Qualified Bilingual Judiciary Clerk is responsible for assisting the public and court-related personnel in English and Spanish; responding to inquiries regarding the proper completion of various court-related forms; and providing information regarding court procedures, both at the service counter and by telephone. The incumbent of this position is responsible for processing the finished docket and entering judgments in the Landlord and Tenant e-filing system. The incumbent is also responsible for assisting with entering return of service as well as scheduling new L&T filings in the e-filing system. Other duties include answering questions from Judges, attorneys, the sheriff's department, and the general public regarding landlord/tenant cases. Assist the public and court-related personnel in English and Spanish by providing information about the status of cases or about Clerk's office procedures both at the counter and by telephone. Separate dockets to ensure uniformity when entering information into the e-filing system. Enter the dispositions/judgements into the system. Assist with scheduling new case L&T filings. Minimum Qualifications Education: High school diploma (or GED equivalent). Experience: One (1) year of work experience, preferably in court operations or in the fields of criminal justice, parole and probation, legal, or financial services. Note: Must obtain a minimum score of 10 on ALTA Proficiency Exam. Note: A Bachelors Degree may substitute the required work experience. A Paralegal/Associates Degree or 60 college credits may substitute the required work experience. A Paralegal Certificate May Substitute The Required Work Experience. Spanish Proficiency Assessments Selected candidates will be required to complete 2 Spanish proficiency assessments as part of the recruitment process. The first assessment will be administered virtually as part of the screening process. A minimum score of 80% must be achieved to continue with the recruitment process. The second assessment will be conducted as part of the interview process. Candidates will be required to obtain a minimum score of 10 on ALTA Proficiency Exam before an official offer of employment will be made. Knowledge General office practices, procedures, and equipment. Standard legal forms and documents used in the Judiciary. Basic English and arithmetic to include but not limited to spelling, punctuation, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Skill In Customer service and handling problems tactfully and patiently. Typing on a personal computer with a net 35 wpm. Accuracy and attention to detail. Ability To Proficiently speak, read, and write in Spanish. Assist and provide information to Spanish-speaking customers in Spanish. Accurately explain court processes, convey basic legal and procedural information in Spanish, without giving legal advice. Read and sight translate forms, documents, and procedure manuals from English to Spanish. Perform simple interpretations from Spanish into English and vice versa while assisting Spanish-speaking customers. Use standard office and business equipment including personal computers, word processing, spreadsheets, database software, copier, microfilm machine, register, scanner, fax machine, etc. Communicate clearly, tactfully, and effectively with judges, the public, police agencies, attorneys, and other court officials and personnel, both verbally and in writing. Understand and abide by departmental rules, regulations, and procedures. Exercise tact, diplomacy, and impartiality in dealing with the public, law enforcement personnel, and attorneys. Follow procedures, verbal and written instructions, and protocols for any given assignment. Exercise independent judgment in interpreting and applying appropriate policy, procedure, rule, law, and/or regulation to a situation. Physical Requirements Sedentary work. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
