Position Overview
We are seeking a diligent Civil Litigation Attorney to manage a diverse caseload of civil matters from intake through resolution. The ideal candidate will handle all phases of litigation including pre-trial discovery, motion practice, depositions, settlement negotiations, arbitration, mediation (including first-chair mediation), and trial while providing clear, strategic counsel to clients and advancing the firms reputation for thorough, results-driven advocacy.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage a full caseload of civil litigation matters from case intake through resolution, including insurance claims and commercial disputes
• Conduct and oversee pre-trial discovery including drafting and responding to interrogatories, requests for production, and requests for admission
• Prepare and take depositions of parties, witnesses, and experts; defend depositions when necessary
• Draft and file pleadings, motions, briefs, and other court documents; develop persuasive pre-trial motions and oppositions
• Develop case strategy and coordinate with clients, experts, and witnesses to prepare for hearings, mediations, arbitrations and trial
• Serve as trial and hearing counsel, presenting evidence, examining witnesses, and making oral arguments in court
• Lead or participate in arbitration proceedings and mediations; conduct first-chair mediations where appropriate to negotiate favorable settlements
• Manage relationships with clients, provide regular case updates, and advise on risk and settlement strategy
• Work closely with paralegals and support staff to organize case files, maintain litigation calendars, and meet court deadlines
• Perform legal research and keep abreast of case law and procedural developments relevant to civil litigation
• Track time, prepare client billing, and assist with business development and client intake as needed

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and admission to the state bar in good standing
• Minimum of 2 years of civil litigation experience; candidates with substantial insurance-claims, commercial litigation, or personal injury defense experience preferred
• Demonstrated experience with depositions, pre-trial discovery, and motion practice; prior trial experience required
• Experience in arbitration and mediation; first-chair mediation experience strongly preferred
• Proven courtroom experience and comfort appearing in state and federal courts
• Strong legal research, drafting, and advocacy skills with a track record of persuasive brief-writing
• Excellent client communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to manage client expectations and foster long-term relationships
• Ability to manage competing priorities, meet strict deadlines, and handle a high-volume caseload with attention to detail
• Familiarity with litigation management software, e-discovery tools, and standard office technology
• Professional integrity, sound judgment, and a collaborative approach to working with colleagues and staff
