What Youll Do

• Support quality and safety by applying performance?improvement practices and sharing best?practice insights across the department.
• Communicate clearly with care teams, document thoroughly, and use critical thinking to support safe, effective patient care.
• Build strong, positive working relationships, mentor colleagues, and contribute to a healthy, respectful workplace culture.
• Take initiative in your own professional development and help elevate the skills of others through knowledge?sharing.
• Follow all sterile processing, decontamination, infection control, and safety standards.
• Clean, decontaminate, inspect, assemble, and sterilize instruments and equipment using both manual and mechanical methods.
• Prepare surgical trays, set up case carts, maintain inventory, and troubleshoot sterilization equipment.
• Work efficiently with attention to cost?effective use of time and materials.
• Participate actively as a team member and uphold UPMCs Core Values through reliable, compassionate, and detail?driven work.
• Perform additional duties as needed to support patient care and department operations.

• High school diploma/GED required; no experience needed. Enrollment in an accredited Surgical Tech/Sterile Processing program or 1 year of UPMC experience preferred.
• Grandfathered technicians without certification must complete 10 hours of annual continuing education; certified staff must complete 1012 hours per certifying body requirements.
• New hires in PA and NY must obtain certification within 18 months (MD excluded).
• Must be able to stand for full shifts and lift/push/pull up to 35 lbs.
• Accepted certifications: Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution or Certified Registered Central Service Technician (HSPA).
• Act 34 clearance required.
