Overview Cape Fox subsidiary Eagle Health, LLC is seeking candidates for a Histology/Necropsy Technician to support a government customer at Ft. Detrick. Job Summary The Employee shall serve as a pathology technician and provide necropsy, histology, and related pathology technical support to assist pathologists and scientists in the Pathology Division. Responsibilities include necropsy procedures, independent tissue collections, tissue accessioning, and routine and special histological processing, including molecular techniques such as immunohistochemistry. Work is performed as part of a team and independently based on guidelines provided by the technical point of contact (TPOC) and pathology laboratory manager. Necropsy and related procedures are performed in accordance with BSL-1 through BSL-4 safety guidelines and institute procedures. Essential Functions and Responsibilities Variable work hours may apply based on technical requirements, including occasional night and weekend hours. Prepare instruments and materials for necropsies; collect specimens (tissues, culture samples, blood or body fluids); dissect or assist with dissection of laboratory animals; collect, label, and preserve/fix tissue specimens; dispose of animal carcasses per safety guidelines. Prepare preliminary records of gross findings using appropriate terminology; prepare and transmit gross photographic images. Accession submitted cases into the pathology database and perform data entry; maintain accurate records of all specimens. Perform routine and special histological procedures, including molecular techniques (immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization) involving trimming, processing, embedding, sectioning, staining, and archiving case materials. Assist in the maintenance and operation of ultrastructural and molecular pathology laboratories; ensure biosafety and GLP requirements are met; ensure laboratories are stocked, operational, and compliant with inspections. Evaluate, modify, or develop procedures to meet study requirements; mentor and verify new technicians to ensure compliance with biocontainment and biosafety training; advise and train personnel on tissue handling and preservation for various histological and molecular procedures. Operate, calibrate, and clean specialized equipment to ensure accurate results that meet clinical, research, and GLP requirements. Prepare documentation to request changes to current Division SOPs; track timelines; perform quality control and obtain signatures for SOP changes; review Periodic Review documents and revise SOPs; serve as point of contact for Pathology SOP issues. Complete required job-related training, including GLP training, as per Pathology Division policies. Attend one scientific conference annually to obtain continuing education and maintain up-to-date knowledge and techniques (as required). Participate in manuscript development and publication of research as required. Operate microscope slide scanning instrumentation (e.g., Olympus VS200 Research Slide Scanner or equivalent) and organize digital image files for pathologist review.
