Staff Accountant

Robert Half is partnering with a rapidly growing nonprofit organization in the Bronx that is seeking a staff accountant to join its finance team. This is a newly created position due to continued organizational growth and expansion. Over the past several years, the organization has experienced significant growth, expanding from approximately $10 million to more than $80 million in annual funding and operating budget, with signed contracts and funding commitments expected to support continued growth toward $100 million. This role will primarily support the organization's newly established foundation while also assisting with accounting responsibilities across the broader organization.

Responsibilities:

• Prepare and post journal entries and assist with month-end and year-end close processes
• Perform bank reconciliations and balance sheet account reconciliations
• Assist with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger maintenance
• Support financial reporting and audit preparation
• Maintain accurate accounting records and supporting documentation
• Assist with foundation accounting activities and reporting requirements
• Support ad hoc accounting projects and process improvement initiatives
• Collaborate with the controller and finance team on various accounting functions

Qualifications:

• 1-4 years of accounting experience
• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field preferred
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills
• Experience with QuickBooks or similar accounting/ERP systems
• Nonprofit or foundation accounting experience is a plus, but candidates from for-profit environments are encouraged to apply
• Strong attention to detail, organization, and communication skills
