Physician - OB Laborist - Royal Oak, MI

Job Summary The OB/GYN Laborist Role A is an in‑house position which ensures that safe, high quality, evidence‑based care is provided to obstetric patients and that hospital resources are managed in a clinically appropriate way. In sites where residents and/or medical students are present this may include resident supervision and education. The OB/GYN Laborist Role A is the primary, first line provider who is expected to be immediately available and present during the entirety of their shift. Assignment 24‑hour in‑house call coverage program Location High volume labor and delivery units (>3,000 deliveries per year) Essential Functions Prevention of maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality by ensuring that all inpatient obstetric care meets and/or exceeds current standards of care. Identify and remediate any area of clinical concern via collaboration with the obstetric care team, which may include: Medical students Nursing staff Resident OB/GYN and/or family medicine physicians Maternal‑fetal medicine fellows Advanced practice providers (certified nurse midwives, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners) Private and/or faculty attending OB/GYN and/or family medicine physicians Through collaboration with the charge nurse, manage unit resources in a clinically appropriate, need‑based manner, which may include: Prioritizing pending labor inductions Prioritizing pending cesarean deliveries Providing on‑site, restricted obstetric care for patients who have had no prenatal care, or whose prior prenatal care was with a provider not privileged at this facility, or whose provider cannot be present because the provider is on call from home and an emergent clinical situation cannot wait. Facilitate transfers from outside hospitals: Accept all medically appropriate transfers Inform relevant obstetric/neonatal staff of pending transfers Manage the transfer upon arrival Lead scheduled safety huddles and post‑event debriefing sessions.
