About the Opportunity

Solairus Aviation is seeking an experienced, hands-on Senior Systems Administrator to join our IT Infrastructure & Security team in Petaluma, California.

The Senior Systems Administrator will be responsible for maintaining, securing, and optimizing our Microsoft-first cloud infrastructure, enterprise systems, and endpoint environments. The ideal candidate will bring strong experience with Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365, identity management, automation, enterprise backup solutions, and IT security.

As a senior member of a lean IT team, you'll have the opportunity to lead technical initiatives, implement automation, and make a meaningful impact across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

Microsoft Azure & Cloud Infrastructure

• Administer and optimize Microsoft Azure infrastructure, including virtual machines, networking, storage, backups, and role-based access controls (RBAC).
• Manage Microsoft 365 services, including Exchange Online, SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams, and Intune.
• Monitor cloud performance, availability, security, and costs while supporting data governance and compliance initiatives.

Identity & Access Management

• Administer Microsoft Entra ID, Okta, and enterprise identity management solutions, including SSO, MFA, conditional access, and user provisioning.
• Maintain privileged access controls and implement identity security best practices.

Systems Administration & Automation

• Develop and maintain PowerShell scripts to automate IT administration, streamline workflows, and improve efficiency.
• Troubleshoot complex infrastructure and system integration issues while maintaining technical documentation and standard operating procedures.
• Lead infrastructure improvements, system upgrades, and technical projects.

Endpoint Management & Security

• Manage Windows, macOS, and mobile devices through enterprise RMM and MDM platforms, including patching, compliance, and software deployment.
• Support endpoint security, firewall administration, incident response, and remediation activities.

Backup & Disaster Recovery

• Administer enterprise backup and recovery solutions such as Veeam, Druva, or comparable platforms.
• Monitor backup operations, troubleshoot failures, perform restoration testing, and maintain disaster recovery procedures.

IT Operations & Leadership

• Serve as a senior escalation resource, mentor junior team members, and coordinate technical projects with internal stakeholders and vendors.
• Support change management, compliance requirements, and occasional after-hours incident response.

Required Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional systems administration experience, including at least 3 years in a senior or lead capacity.
• Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure infrastructure, including virtual machines, networking, storage, backups, and RBAC.
• Advanced administration experience with Microsoft 365, Entra ID, and Intune.
• Strong PowerShell scripting skills with demonstrated experience automating enterprise IT processes.
• Experience with identity management, SSO, MFA, conditional access, and enterprise endpoint management platforms.
• Hands-on experience with enterprise backup and disaster recovery solutions such as Veeam, Druva, or similar technologies.
• Working knowledge of enterprise security tools, firewalls, and incident response.
• Excellent troubleshooting, communication, documentation, and project management skills.
• Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and take ownership of technical initiatives.

Preferred Qualifications

• Microsoft certifications such as AZ-104, MS-102, or SC-300.
• Experience with Okta, Workspace ONE, NinjaOne, Veeam, Druva, or similar enterprise platforms.
• Familiarity with Python or Java scripting for system integrations and automation.
• Experience with Microsoft Purview, security monitoring, and privileged access management solutions.
• Experience in aviation, financial services, or other regulated industries.
• Familiarity with ITIL practices, change management, and audit compliance.

Compensation & Work Environment

• Annual base salary: $118,000–$135,000, depending on experience and qualifications.
• Full-time position based in Petaluma, California.
• Hybrid schedule: 4 days onsite and 1 day remote (pending confirmation).
• Occasional after-hours and weekend support for critical incidents or scheduled maintenance.
• Occasional travel to company locations or aviation facilities.
