Biomedical Engineer Technician III

The Biomedical Engineer Technician III serves as a technical leader in delivering safe, reliable imaging services by performing advanced diagnostics, complex repairs, and specialized maintenance on biomedical and imaging equipment within an assigned geographic region. This role brings deep expertise and independence while partnering with clinicians, service teams, and leadership to resolve the most challenging technical issues and reduce equipment downtime. Through mentorship, sound judgment, and a commitment to continuous improvement, the BMET III elevates patient safety, service quality, and team capability. This position represents mastery of the profession, combining advanced technical skill with meaningful leadership and impact in local healthcare communities.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Perform advanced diagnostics, preventive maintenance, and complex repairs on biomedical and imaging equipment, ensuring optimal performance and regulatory compliance.
  • Serve as the technical escalation point for challenging equipment issues, providing expert troubleshooting and resolution to minimize service disruptions and downtime.
  • Lead service activities within an assigned geographic region, independently managing workload, priorities, and customer expectations.
  • Collaborate closely with clinicians, service teams, and leadership to align technical solutions with clinical needs and service objectives.
  • Mentor and support BMET I and II technicians, sharing technical knowledge, best practices, and professional guidance to strengthen team capability.
  • Ensure accurate and timely service documentation, maintaining compliance with safety standards, quality requirements, and internal procedures.
  • Identify trends, recurring issues, and improvement opportunities, recommending corrective actions to enhance equipment reliability and service efficiency.
  • Support training initiatives, equipment validation, and new technology rollouts, contributing subject-matter expertise to organizational growth and continuous improvement.
  • Driving and vehicle operation are essential functions of this role.

Role Competencies:

  • Strong PC competency, including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and understanding of computer hardware, processors, and electronic circuit boards.
  • Proficient in networking technologies with strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to make quick, sound decisions with limited information.

Experience and Education Requirements:

Preferred Experience:

  • 5+ years of progressively responsible experience in biomedical or imaging equipment service within a healthcare, field service, or clinical environment.
  • Demonstrated expertise performing advanced diagnostics, complex repairs, and independent service work on biomedical and imaging equipment.
  • Proven experience serving as a technical escalation resource, resolving high-impact or recurring equipment issues with minimal oversight.
  • Experience supporting equipment across an assigned geographic region, including workload prioritization, customer communication, and service coordination.

Education (or equivalent experience):

  • Associate degree or equivalent training/experience in electronics or Biomedical Engineering.

Travel Requirements:

This role requires frequent travel to assigned healthcare facilities and flexibility of schedule.

This role may involve:

  • Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout various work environments for extended periods.
  • Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, and reaching to access and service equipment.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds; heavier lifting may require assistance or mechanical aids.
  • Manual dexterity to handle tools, small components, and electronic parts.
  • Visual acuity and color perception sufficient to read schematics, calibrate equipment, and identify wiring or indicators.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with healthcare and related facility staff, as well as document service activities accurately and efficiently.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) in any situation where it is necessary.
  • Compliance with hospital health and safety requirements. Ability to safely operate and enter/exit vehicles, drive for extended periods and work in varied environmental conditions with potential exposure to machinery, noise, and hazardous materials.

The base pay range for this position is:

  • Min $80,000 - Max $100,000
