An environmental service (EVS) worker cleans, sanitizes, and maintains safe, infection-controlled environments in healthcare facilities, schools, and commercial buildings. 

The primary goal of an EVS worker is to stop the spread of germs and protect the health of patients, visitors, and staff. They ensure all assigned areas meet strict health and safety standards. 

Key Responsibilities:

Cleaning and Disinfecting: Wash floors, walls, and windows. Disinfect high-touch surfaces like doorknobs, bed rails, and medical equipment.

Waste Management: Empty trash cans and safely handle regulated medical waste following infection control rules.

Room Turnaround: Prepare patient rooms or event spaces for new occupants by cleaning surfaces, making beds, and restocking supplies.

Supply Restocking: Refill paper towels, soap, hand sanitizer, and linens in restrooms and common areas.

Safety and Reporting: Wear proper protective gear (PPE) and report broken fixtures or maintenance issues to the facility team. 

Qualifications and Skills:

Physical Stamina: Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift heavy items or equipment for long shifts.

Chemical Knowledge: Understanding of how to safely mix and use industrial cleaning agents.

Attention to Detail: Thoroughness in spotting and eliminating unseen dirt and pathogens.

Communication: Ability to follow written and oral instructions and talk politely with patients or guests.

Education: A high school diploma or GED is preferred, on-the-job training is common.
