Overview

Work with the Chairman and VP to determine the overall objectives of the department and the administration of the department. Helps establish and clarify departmental policies and procedures, and department short-and-long-term goals.


Responsibilities

• Ensures the day-to-day organizational and operation of the Department of Radiation Oncology.
• Identify and attempt to correct any deficiencies that would in any way impair the Department's ability to function optimally.
• Based on direction from the Chairman of Radiation Oncology, the Director of the Cancer Center and VP of the Cancer Center, implement hiring, evaluation, disciplinary actions and, when needed, termination of Departmental employees.
• Act as primary "trouble shooter" for the Department. The Administrator has primary responsibility for all patient complaints and concerns and all staff complaints and concerns.
• Maintain a continually updated, current overview of Departmental procedures.
• Ensure that the Department is receiving appropriate support from other groups in the medical center.
• Keep records of staff attendance for the Director; coordinate staff vacations, conference time, etc.
• It is the responsibility of the Departmental Leaders/Managers, to provide effective leadership and for the continuous improvement of departmental activities. Departmental Leaders/Managers are responsible for ensuring that the following leadership standards are met, either personally or through delegation.
• Demonstrates skill and ability to continuously monitor activity and performance of staff, reinforcing desired standards; makes regular performance evaluations and provides supervision retraining and guidance necessary
• Demonstrates ability to perform a broad variety of personnel functions, including orientation, training, performance appraisal, disciplining, scheduling, counseling, and other activities related to the full utilization of the staff. Performs variety of personnel actions including hiring and termination; assures sound communication within the section; keeps employees informed of department activities and plans, as well as, hospital wide events and related information.
• Demonstrates knowledge and ability to develop and implement preventative maintenance and cost control programs including inventory controls for supplies and equipment. Ensures adequate levels of supplies and records as needed. Interviews sales persons and recommends new procedures and purchase of new or improved equipment.
• Demonstrates ability to coordinate the activities of the Department to ensure smooth flow of work through department, and to optimize cooperation between clerical and technical sections and maintain open communications among all employees. Holds meetings and conferences to keep others informed or to discuss problems or matters of current interest. Hears, investigates and resolves inquiries and problems of patients, or refers to appropriate authorities.
• Carries out appropriate actions and procedures to ensure safety to patients, employees, visitors and any others in the department.
• Assumes responsibility for maintaining proficient in job skills and seeks opportunity for continued growth.

Qualifications

Minimum Education: BA or BS degree or its equivalent.

Minimum Experience: Minimum five years of clinical experience in Radiation Therapy and/or hospital management, with a demonstration of leadership abilities.


Pay Range

USD $173,000.00 - USD $217,000.00 /Yr.
