Retail Licensed Optician

Summary Assists customers with frame selection, fits, and dispenses frames. Utilizes technical information to interpret prescriptions to assist customers with the selection of optical products and services. Pay Class and Pay Pay Class: Full Time Pay: $27 - $40.50 per hour Essential Responsibilities Assist each customer in frame and lens selection while meeting social distancing requirements. Ensure compliance with social distancing, cleaning protocols, and hygiene practices. Provide customers with accurate product information regarding frames, lens selections, and other services. Provide customers covered by third‑party insurance with accurate information regarding benefits to ensure proper selection of frames and lenses and inform them of any additional charges not covered by their insurance. Utilize the SERVE sales process to identify customer needs and establish proper lens recommendations based on patient needs, utilizing all available demonstration tools. Analyze and interpret patients’ prescriptions and communicate with the lab and optometrist to ensure accuracy. Sell, fit, and dispense frames and accessories through accurate measurements, verification of ordered products, and adjustments in accordance with the eyewear presentation. Maintain a clean and orderly dispensing area. Ensure accurate pricing for retail customers. Maintain license requirements per state guidelines. Provide feedback and guidance to apprentice opticians where applicable. Adhere to privacy and confidentiality policies, including HIPAA. Participate in all required training and educational activities to meet departmental goals and maintain professional affiliations. Maintain cleanliness of all equipment, workstations, and the facility daily. Complete additional responsibilities as assigned based on changing business needs. Education High School Diploma or Equivalent. Experience & Background Must hold and maintain applicable state licensure for ophthalmic dispensing. Demonstrated ability in explaining optical products, services, analyzing and interpreting prescriptions, fitting and dispensing. Language Skills Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to present information effectively in one‑on‑one and small group settings. Mathematical Skills Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, and percentages. Ability to apply basic algebra and geometry concepts. Reasoning Ability Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagram form. Deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Physical Demands/Work Environment Required to stand, use hands and fingers, talk or hear most of the time, occasionally stand, walk, and reach. Must frequently lift or move up to 20 pounds. Noise level moderate. Close vision: 20 inches or less. Distance vision: 20 feet or more. Color vision: ability to identify colors. Peripheral vision: ability to observe an area while eyes remain fixed. Depth perception: judgment of distances and spatial relationships. Ability to adjust focus.
