This role requires a high level of skill in reading blueprints, fitting, welding, and inspecting structural assemblies to ensure they meet quality, safety, and strength standards. The technician works closely with fabrication, engineering, and quality teams to produce durable, code-compliant structures.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Perform structural welding on carbon steel and other metals using MIG and FCAW welding processes in flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions.Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, welding symbols, and specifications.Fit, tack, and weld structural components such as frames, sub-frames, reinforcements, and load-bearing assemblies.Ensure welds meet required specifications, strength requirements, and quality standards.Operate welding equipment, cutting torches, grinders, and other fabrication tools safely and efficiently.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Advanced knowledge of structural steel welding techniques and procedures.Proficiency with MIG and FCAW welding processes.Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and measuring tools.Knowledge of AWS welding standards and structural welding requirements.High attention to detail and commitment to quality.Ability to work independently or as part of a team.Strong problem-solving and communication skills.Basic math skills and mechanical aptitude.Commitment to workplace safety and use of proper PPE.Education and Experience:High school diploma or GED required.Technical school or welding certification preferred.Minimum of 3–5 years of structural steel welding experience required.AWS certification (D1.1 or similar) preferred or ability to obtain.Experience in truck body, trailer, or heavy manufacturing environment preferred.Work Environment:Manufacturing work environment that has frequent exposure to fumes or airborne particles, noise intensity level, proximity to moving mechanical parts and exposure to weather.Mickey Truck Bodies and Subsidiaries is an equal opportunity employer.
