Assistant Professor OF Economics

Description The Department of Economics and Business at St. Mary’s College of Maryland is accepting applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Economics with a specialization in Empirical Economics to support the College's Data Science minor, beginning August 2027. This position will regularly teach both Economics and Data Science courses and is open to any subfield within Economics, with priority given to candidates with empirical, policy-oriented research and experience. Faculty members teach three courses per semester, advise program majors, supervise senior projects, and fulfill departmental and college-level service responsibilities. All professors at St. Mary's are expected to contribute to the college-wide core curriculum as well as to their departmental curriculum. Faculty are expected to teach in-person classes supported on methodologies that promote students' engagement. The annual salary range for this position is $85,000 to $100,000, commensurate with the candidate's qualifications and experience. Qualifications Ph.D. in Economics (may be ABD at time of application if degree completion by August 2027 is certain), with a record of high-quality teaching and research. Must have college-level teaching experience, and a record of—or demonstrating promise of—high quality intellectual contributions. Candidates must be able to design and deliver courses in Economics and Data Science, and must be proficient in the programming languages R and Python. Preference will be given to candidates with teaching, research, or applied experience in empirical, policy-oriented economics, including data scraping, data visualization, or machine learning. An interest in attracting and retaining students from underrepresented groups is desirable. The successful candidate must produce the necessary documentation to legally work in the U.S. upon hire.
