Phlebotomist

Overview Position: Phlebotomist 5205 Location: Novi, MI and area (float job) Schedule: 6 AM to 6 PM, Monday–Friday, and Saturdays when needed. Candidate will typically work an 8-hour shift but start as early as 6 AM or end as late as 6 PM depending on location coverage. Projected duration: 3 months + potential for permanent hire Job code: CVDJP00035205 Pay rate: $23 per hour Benefits: available Mileage expense paid Minimum experience: 2 years of experience; requires pediatric to geriatric experience. This is a float position covering a wide area of the Metro Detroit area, including the West side of Michigan (e.g., Coldwater, Jackson, Ann Arbor, Battle Creek). Requires a clean driving record and reliable transportation. Summary The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshoot, provide training and make workflow recommendations. Position Responsibilities Experience performing blood draws and labeling specimens. CentriFuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination, updating patient information. Collects and stores specimens according to established procedures. Explain the venipuncture process clearly and courteously; other specimen collection as required. Demonstrate technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles. Understand and follow physician orders; match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order. Check test requisitions or computer label against script for accuracy (aims for 100% correctness). Package specimens for transport; store samples according to required temperature; label appropriately and follow transport protocols to maintain specimen integrity. Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations; participate in annual department trainings. Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries. Minimum Qualifications Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment (as required in some states). Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
