Job Title: Assembly Worker – Rotary Knifer (2nd Shift)

Job Description

This role focuses on assembling rotary dies used to cut corrugated (a material shaped into alternating parallel ridges and grooves, which form a wavy or pleated pattern) cardboard, similar to large industrial cookie cutters. You will install blades and rubber components on custom dies using hand and pneumatic tools (powered by, operated by, or filled with compressed air or gas), working closely with a team to ensure high-quality, precise products for major corrugating companies. The position is physically active, hands-on, and offers long-term growth opportunities into areas such as laser operation, fixture building, CAD (Computer-Aided Design), and sales. Responsibilities

• Assemble rotary dies by installing rules (blades) into the die using a special mallet and other hand tools.

• Use pneumatic and hand tools to bend and shape rules as required by the work order specifications.

• Apply rubber components to dies after blades are installed, ensuring proper placement and secure fit.

• Follow detailed written and visual instructions to complete custom die assemblies accurately.

• Read and interpret work orders to understand dimensions, layouts, and specific customer requirements.

• Maintain a clean and organized workstation, ensuring tools and materials are properly stored and handled.

• Work as part of a team to safely move and lift dies using team lifts when necessary.

• Perform repetitive hammering and assembly tasks for extended periods while maintaining quality and consistency.

• Inspect assembled dies for accuracy, completeness, and potential defects before moving them to the next process.

• Handle materials and components safely, staying aware of sharp blades and potential pinch points to minimize risk of cuts.

• Communicate clearly with supervisors and team members about work progress, issues, or questions related to work orders.

• Support overtime needs by staying at the end of scheduled shifts as required, typically 1–2 extra hours once or twice a week.

Essential Skills

• Ability to consistently lift 50 lbs and occasionally up to 70–80 lbs, including participation in team lifts.

• Comfort performing hammering tasks for most of the day using a mallet or hammer.

• Experience following written and visual instructions, with at least 1 year preferred.

• Strong hand dexterity and fine motor skills for precise assembly work.

• Basic math skills to support measuring, layout, and work order interpretation.

• Ability to read, write, and speak English to follow custom die specifications and safety information.

• Attention to detail and the ability to work accurately at a dedicated workstation.

• High school diploma or GED preferred.

• Comfort working with hand tools, power tools, and pneumatic tools in a production environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Previous experience in construction, woodworking, or assembly is a strong plus.

• Mechanical aptitude (working on own vehicle, housing furniture, putting up paintings on your wall, etc.)

• Prior experience working effectively as part of a team in a production or manufacturing setting.

• Friendly, positive attitude and a strong willingness to learn new skills and processes.

• Comfort working around solvents, adhesives, and chemicals such as WD-40.

• Openness to cross-training and potential advancement into other departments such as laser operation, fixture building, CAD, or sales.

Work Environment

This is a mid-sized, family-owned, team-oriented manufacturing environment focused on producing custom rotary dies. The production floor may occasionally smell of glue, sawdust, solvents, and chemicals like WD-40; masks are available for employees who wish to use them. You may get glue on your hands and will work around sharp blades, so awareness and safe work habits are important, though cuts are uncommon. The role requires standing throughout the shift, and anti-fatigue mats are provided to improve comfort. The dress code consists of typical manufacturing attire: jeans or pants, a t-shirt or sweatshirt without derogatory words or images and without large noticeable holes, along with tennis shoes or other closed-toe footwear. The position is on 2nd shift, working Monday through Friday from 1:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., with overtime often available at the end of the shift for 1–2 hours as needed, typically once or twice per week. Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.50 - $18.50/hr.
