Job Opening - Principal Position Summary The Principal is the educational leader of the school, responsible for the development and administration of the academic and co-curricular programs of the school and for the planning, coordination and execution of the school’s educational policy. Under the leadership of the President, the Principal is a member of the Brebeuf Jesuit Leadership Team and the supervisory team leader of the Assistant Principals, the Dean of Students, the Director of Athletics, College Counseling, Student Activities, and Database Operations. Responsibilities The Principal has the primary responsibility for achieving the mission of the school by maintaining and developing a school strong in academic achievement, counseling and student support services, and ample programs to meet the co-curricular needs of the students. Leadership for Mission Ensures that the Jesuit and Catholic character of the school is developed and nurtured. Articulates and promotes the Jesuit mission and Ignatian vision of the school. Hires faculty and staff whose values are compatible with and supportive of the school’s mission. Help faculty and staff integrate the mission of the school throughout the school’s educational program. Develops a discipline program with the Dean of Students which is consistent with the mission of the school. School Administration Policy Implements Board policy with regard to academics, student life, athletics, and other areas. Ensures compliance with State and Archdiocesan policy where applicable in the operation of the school. Recruitment, Admission and Retention of Students Actively participates in the recruitment and admission of students through cooperation with the Admissions Office. Leads the Admissions Committee and holds responsibility for admissions decisions for applicants. Works with the Assistant Principals and the counseling staff to support and retain students experiencing academic difficulties. Makes decisions for the dismissal of students after consultation with the Dean and other appropriate staff. Academic Affairs Works closely with the Assistant Principals in the planning, implementation and evaluation of the curriculum, assisted in this by the Department Chairs. In collaboration with the Assistant Principals and Department Chairs, assigns teaching and other professional responsibilities as the needs of the school require. Oversees the reporting of student progress. Oversees the maintenance of school records. Ensures the assignment of substitute teachers when necessary. Supervision Interviews, hires, and evaluates members of the administrative staff that report to the Principal. Appoints Department Chairs and coordinators of other academic and cocurricular areas. Works closely with the Assistant Principals and Department Chairs in teacher selection, teacher assignments, evaluation and development of curriculum and departmental budgets. Provides for regular meetings of the administrative team, regular faculty and department meetings and beginning and end-of-year meetings for all faculty and staff. Provides orientation for new teachers and continuing in-service education and professional development of all faculty. Sees to the development of creative programs of faculty and staff recognition. Observes and evaluates the Assistant Principals, Dean of Students, Director of Athletics and all other direct reports. Works closely with the Assistant Principals in the evaluation of department chairs. Consults regularly with the President and Human Resources regarding personnel matters. Student Life Works closely with the Assistant Principals, Dean of Students, Director of Athletics, Director of Student Activities, and others in exercising general supervision of student activities and programs. Holds responsibility for the development of the school calendar. Supervises the administration of the discipline policies of the school. Works closely with the Dean of Students and Assistant Principals on the annual updating and publication of the student handbook. Financial Affairs Directs the preparation and administration of the budget for the Principal’s office. Reviews and approves budgets for all academic and co-curricular areas and submits the budgets to the VP of Finance. Works closely with those who monitor the academic and co-curricular budgets to ensure that they are within approved limits. Facilities Works with the President, VP of Campus Operations and VP of Finance to ensure that the operation of school facilities supports the school’s program. Makes recommendations to the President, VP of Campus Operations and VP of Finance for building modifications and use policies. Ensures the coordination of the use of school facilities for school and non-school related functions. Communications and Public Relations Oversees the timely communication of school information to faculty, staff, students and parents in coordination with the VP for Marketing and Communications. Oversees the completion of all official Jesuit Province, Jesuit School Network (JSN), Diocesan and State reports. Represents the school to the parent community and the alumni/ae. Maintains good communications and relationships with parents and other stakeholders of the school. Assists the President in the communication of short and long-range plans to the school community. Attends meetings of the Board of Trustees and presents reports as directed by the President. Professional Organizations and Affiliations Takes part in personal as well as professional development activities. Participates in professional organizations, including JSN. Attends meetings for Jesuit high school Presidents and Principals conducted by the Jesuit Province and other appropriate JSN meetings. Attends meetings for principals of private and Catholic high schools of the area.

CREDENTIALS

Required Practicing Catholic Master’s Degree Willingness to become licensed as a Building Level Administrator by the Indiana Department of Education Five (5) years of teaching responsibility in secondary education Five (5) years of administrative responsibility in secondary education (or equivalent) Evidence of strong interpersonal, management, and communication skills Evidence of collaborative leadership Sensitivity to diversity Preferred State License as a building level administrator (or equivalent) Experience in a Jesuit educational setting Experience in a diverse educational environment Please note Brebeuf Jesuit is engaging faculty, staff, and community partners in shaping this role.
