SUMMARY: Provides functional guidance to Medical Assistants based on current work flows. Responsible for covering clinical offices based on operational need. Assists in the examination of patients under the direction of a Physician or Allied Health professional, and in accordance with M.A. scope of practice. Thorough knowledge of infection control and aseptic techniques. Responsible for maintaining smooth patient flow by accurate assessment of patients needs, thorough attention to physician orders and properly scheduling and follow-up of tests and procedures performed on patient. Act as an intermediary between physician and patients when necessary to more appropriately use the physician time.

Qualifications

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required. One (1) year medical group experience preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS: Medical Assistant Certification and current AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professional (AHA BLS Healthcare) - American Heart Association certification required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Essential functions are those tasks, duties and responsibilities that comprise the means of accomplishing the job's purpose and objectives. Essential functions are critical or fundamental to the performance of the job. They are the major functions for which the person in the job is held accountable. Note: (other duties may be assigned, deleted or changed at any time, at the discretion of management, formally, or informally, either verbally or in writing).
1.Provides functional guidance to Medical Assistants based on current work flows.
2.Cooperates in the cross training of this position to ensure coverage at all times.
3.Collection of patient data to include record keeping to ensure chart is in order. Logs appropriate procedures and tests. Billing and patient charges are kept current. Tick sheets are done accurately and on time. Patient instruction-injections and scheduled medications are documented accurately.
4.Preparation of Patients to include vital signs, charting, attends to the individual needs of the patient, prepare patient for minor procedures. Ensure that patient has the correct consent information completed.
5.Demonstrates technical skills by following all safety policies and procedures involving patient care, i.e. injections, handling instruments, cleaning wounds, handling body fluids. Practices good sterile technique involving minor surgical procedures and handling injuries, wounds, etc.
6.Explain procedure to patient and family to gain cooperation, understanding, and to ease apprehension.
7.Prepare treatment room for examination of patients; assist physician with procedures; clean examination rooms and sterilize appropriate equipment after use.
8.Administer prescribed medication orally or by injection (per policy scope of service) and document time, dosage and route on patient chart.
9.Perform electrocardiograph (EKG), pulse oximetry, inhalation treatments, and operate other equipment, as certified.
10.Complete all documentation to ensure accurate medical records. Assure that physician has signed chart; review physician orders to verify that all orders have been carried out. Return patient charts to medical records.
11.Inventory and order medical supplies and materials, as needed.
12.Responsible for ensuring all expired sample medications and patient supplies are discarded upon expiration date.
13.Supports and practices the policies and procedures of nursing services.
14.Function in the scope of Medical Assistant practice and Riverside Medical Clinic policies and procedures.
15.Maintains current BLS certification.
