Phlebotomist Representative I - Hospital - Niles, MI, Monday to Friday, 7:30 PM to 6:00 AM, with rotational weekends Represents the face of our company to patients within the hospital systems at Quest Diagnostics, both as part of their routine health management or for insights into life-defining health decisions. The Phlebotomist I draws quality blood samples from patients while following established practices and procedures. The Phlebotomist I has direct contact with patients and creates an atmosphere of trust and confidence while explaining procedures to patients and drawing blood specimens in a skillful, safe and accurate manner. The Phlebotomist I will demonstrate Quest Leadership Behaviors while focusing on process excellence skills and sensitivity to confidentiality and accuracy to patient information. Successful applicants will be assigned to work in a fast-paced hospital environment. employee may be eligible to receive shift differential of 10% for some or all hours worked on second shift and 15% for some or all hours worked on third shift. Additional details on shift differential will be provided if an offer is extended. Responsibilities: Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection on patients of all age groups. Accurately label and process specimens according to laboratory protocol. Maintain cleanliness and organization of phlebotomy carts and work areas. Administer oral solutions according to established training, such as Glucola. Data entry and processing specimens including labeling, centrifuging, splitting, and freezing specimens as required by test order. Perform departmental-related clerical duties when assigned such as data entry, inventory, stock supplies, and answer phones when needed. Read, understand and comply with departmental policies, protocols and procedures: (i.e. Procedure Manuals, Safety Manual, Compliance Manual, Employee Handbook, Quality Assurance Manual); and ensure that all staff members follow instructions. Observe infection control and safety protocols at all times. Maintain all appropriate phlebotomy logs in a timely manner and based on frequency, such as maintenance logs and temperature logs. Responsible for completing all data entry requirements, where applicable, accurately including data entry of patient registration; entry of test order from requisition or pulling order from database; managing Standing Orders. Ensure facilities are neat, clean and in good repair, takes appropriate action to advise Group Leader or Supervisor of required repairs and maintenance. Complete training courses and keep up to date with the latest phlebotomy techniques. Communicate effectively with patients, nursing staff, and lab personnel. Participate in special projects and teams. Rotate through inpatient, outpatient, physicians’ offices, and ED settings as scheduled. Assist with training new staff or students as needed. Stay up to date on company communications. Performs additional duties and responsibilities as needed. Qualifications: Required Work Experience: Demonstrate proficient phlebotomy skills to include pediatric, geriatric, and capillary collections. Flexible and available based on staffing needs, which includes weekends, holidays, on-call and overtime. Must have reliable transportation, valid driver's license, and clean driving record, if applicable. Preferred Work Experience: One year of phlebotomy experience preferred. Customer service and healthcare experience preferred. Keyboard/data entry experience. Depending on site operations and model, Hospital Phlebotomists may also support pre-analytical laboratory functions Physical and Mental Requirements: Lift light to moderately heavy objects. The normal performance of duties may require lifting and carrying objects. Objects in the weight range of 1 to 15 pounds are lifted and carried frequently; objects in the weight range of 16 to 25 pounds are lifted and carried. Objects exceeding 41 pounds are not to be lifted or carried without assistance. Must be able to sit, stand, and walk for long periods of time; requires long hours of eye-hand coordination. Must be able to use stairs and/or elevators to move between floors as required by the job. Must be able to perform repetitive tasks with dominant hand frequently to constantly throughout the day. Position may require travel. Extensive use of phone and PC. Fine dexterity with hands/steadiness. Positional Coordination (balancing, bending/kneeling, pushing/pulling, reaching/twisting). Knowledge: Committed to all applicable Quest Diagnostics & Hospital System policies and procedures including company dress code, Employee Health & Safety, and Quest Diagnostics Everyday Excellence Guiding Principles. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. Skills: Ability to provide quality, error free work in a fast-paced environment. Ability to work independently with minimal on-site supervision. Excellent phlebotomy skills to include pediatric and geriatric. Must demonstrate superior customer focus; engaging in positive interactions; ability to communicate openly and transparently with peers, supervisors and patients; ability to accelerate and embrace change throughout Quest; and knowledge of our business. Work Environment: Hospital environment. Patient Temperament / Exposure to graphic traumas English required Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent.
