About This Job

As a Patient Care Technician, you play a vital role in delivering compassionate and essential care to our patients. You work directly with individuals, providing comfort and support while assisting our nursing and medical teams. This position offers a unique opportunity to make a tangible difference in patients' lives every day, contributing significantly to their well-being and recovery within a dynamic healthcare environment. You serve as a crucial link between patients and the broader care team, ensuring a safe, supportive, and healing atmosphere.
Job Duties and Responsibilities

Provides direct patient care, including assisting with personal hygiene, mobility, feeding, and comfort measures.
Monitors and records vital signs, intake and output, and other patient data accurately and promptly.
Assists nurses with medical procedures, examinations, and treatments as directed.
Maintains a clean, safe, and organized patient environment, ensuring supplies are stocked and accessible.
Communicates effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members, relaying important information and concerns.
Responds to patient calls and requests promptly, addressing immediate needs or escalating to appropriate staff.
Documents observations, interventions, and patient responses in the electronic health record according to established protocols.
Supports patient independence and dignity, encouraging participation in self-care activities when appropriate.
Reports any changes in patient condition or behavior to the nursing staff immediately.

Required Qualifications
Education

Possesses a high school diploma or equivalent.
Completes an approved Patient Care Technician (PCT) program or equivalent medical assistant/nursing assistant training.

Experience

Demonstrates an understanding of basic patient care principles, gained through training or prior experience.

Knowledge/Skills

Applies basic medical terminology and anatomical knowledge.
Exhibits strong interpersonal and communication skills, fostering trust and rapport with patients and colleagues.
Shows empathy, compassion, and patience in all patient interactions.
Follows verbal and written instructions accurately and efficiently.
Maintains strict confidentiality of patient information.
Performs basic computer skills for documentation and communication.
Manages time effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Holds current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Possesses prior experience in a hospital, clinic, or long-term care setting.
Has experience with phlebotomy or EKG procedures.

Physical Requirements/Work Conditions

Stands , walks , and moves for extended periods during shifts.
Lifts , pushes , and pulls up to 50 pounds, including assisting with patient transfers and repositioning.
Bends , stoops , kneels , and reaches frequently.
Works in an environment with potential exposure to bodily fluids, infectious diseases, and unpleasant odors.
Tolerates a dynamic and sometimes stressful work environment.
Possesses visual and auditory acuity to assess patient conditions and communicate effectively.
