LVN / LPN Profession: Nursing Specialty: Step Down

Job Title: LVN / LPN Profession: Nursing Specialty: Step Down Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 1.5 years in Step Down or Progressive Care Unit with a 1:5 ratio experience. License: Active state LPN license or compact license required. Certifications: BLS, ACLS, EKG tele competency assessment. Must-Have: - Ventilator experience - Epic charting system experience

Description: 36 or 48-hour shifts available. For 48-hour contracts, overtime is paid out after 48 hours. Application must show 1:5 ratio experience in Work History for Step Down or Progressive Care settings. ICU experience does not count towards Step Down or Progressive Care experience. Unit may participate in a team nursing model where nurses partner together to care for a group of patients. The goal is to divide the workload rather than divide patients to improve both the workload and patient care. Nurses may function in either team nursing or primary nursing depending on unit needs. Targeted patient ratios are typically 1:4, but can go up to 1:5-6. Must pass an online EKG tele competency assessment before starting the assignment. Must be able to read and interpret cardiac strips. Nurses will be fitted for N95 masks prior to working with specific patient populations unless alternative PPE is offered. Travelers will first float at the discretion of management. Agency staff may float into different specialties based on the medically appropriate assignment and team support. Flexibility to work every other weekend and holiday is required. Cancellation of shifts may occur due to low patient census during the contract period. Travelers are not eligible for employee incentives. Unit Details: Working with telemetry, drips, and ventilators. Patient population primarily consists of individuals with COPD, CHF, pneumonia, flu, sepsis, diabetic ketoacidosis, and post-COVID conditions. The nursing staff works closely with respiratory therapists to manage complex care needs, including tracheostomy and ventilator support. Common medications administered include heparin, Cardizem, and insulin drips. Unit specializes in advanced care for patients with pulmonary diseases. The patient population is complex and often requires intensive nursing interventions. Teamwork is emphasized within the unit, and a trial for team nursing is currently in progress. Special equipment utilized includes lift equipment and nurse iPhones. Candidates must be comfortable floating to various units as needed based on exceptional circumstances. Epic experience is required for all inpatient nursing roles.
