Position Summary: The THV Safety Coordinator monitors activities at the Tiny Homes Village and maintains a safe environment for all the residents. This position also provides emergency coverage as needed and works closely with other Village staff. This role is responsible for protection and security of the Tiny House Village. Reports all incidents in writing using the Public Safety reporting database, and reports all criminal activity to Puyallup Tribal Police. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Foster positive relationships with residents by providing respectful, trauma-informed customer service while promoting a safe, welcoming, and supportive community environment. Monitor resident behavior and ensure compliance with Tiny Home Village policies, procedures, community rules, and guest regulations. Maintain a safe and secure environment for residents, guests, staff, volunteers, contractors, and visitors throughout the Tiny Home Village. Conduct routine patrols of the village, including housing units, common areas, parking lots, entrances, exits, and surrounding grounds to identify and address safety concerns. Monitor security cameras and observe village activity to identify potential safety or security issues. Control and monitor access to the village by checking in visitors, maintaining visitor logs, and escorting visitors when required. Respond promptly to emergencies, incidents, medical situations, and disruptive behavior, remaining calm and exercising sound judgment while following established policies and procedures. Utilize trauma-informed de-escalation techniques to assist with resolving conflicts between residents or visitors and support the Coordinator on Duty (COD) during crisis situations. Assist the Coordinator on Duty with enforcing community rules, conducting wellness checks, unit inspections, and responding to resident concerns. Coordinate with law enforcement, fire personnel, emergency medical services, behavioral health providers, and other emergency responders when appropriate or directed. Enforce safety procedures and implement emergency response protocols, including evacuations, lockdowns, and other emergency measures as required. Maintain knowledge of emergency exits, fire safety equipment, first aid supplies, and emergency procedures, and assist residents and visitors during emergencies. Observe, document, and prepare accurate, timely written reports for incidents, accidents, injuries, policy violations, and unusual activities. Complete required daily activity logs, shift reports, and other documentation accurately and on time. Communicate ongoing operational concerns, resident issues, and safety observations to the Village Coordinator on Duty and Village Lead Coordinator. Remain alert and attentive throughout each shift to proactively identify and respond to safety concerns. Operate communication equipment, including two-way radios, to maintain effective communication with Village staff. Participate as part of a team providing continuous 24-hour, 7-day-a-week staffing coverage for the Tiny Home Village. Identify hazardous conditions and report maintenance or safety concerns to appropriate staff to reduce risks and maintain a safe environment. Answer resident and visitor questions and provide information regarding Village services, policies, and procedures. Maintain confidentiality of resident information in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and organizational policies. Participate in required training, including safety, emergency preparedness, de-escalation, CPR/First Aid (if required), and other job-related training. Perform other duties as assigned by Public Safety. Supervisory Responsibilities This position does not have supervisory duties. May provide guidance to other staff working at the Village. Education and/or Experience High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. One year of combined experience working with homeless populations and/or experience working with a high-risk populations or own lived experiences. High-risk means but is not limited to the exposure of aggressive behavior, undiagnosed/diagnosed mental health problems, substance usage, poverty, homelessness, abuse, or severe addiction combined with mild- to moderate-severity mental disorders or lived experiences for example, to have personal experience with addiction, homelessness, mental health problems, poverty, or trauma. Previous work experience providing assistance/services to clients in a Native American community. Work experience may be substituted for personal experience if the applicant can demonstrate that they can perform job duties. Beginner computer skills in Word and Excel, and Outlook required. Must have the ability to write incident reports. Must be able to work any assigned shift, including weekends, evenings, graveyard and holidays. Excellent problem solving and conflict resolution skills. Excellent communication skills. Demonstrated ability to work with people with sensitivity to cultural, race, gender, mental health and class issues, and a demonstrated commitment to low-income housing and ending homelessness. Language Skills Effectively conveys and receives ideas, information and directions. Demonstrates good verbal and written communication. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Mathematical Skills Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Reasoning Ability Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Licenses or Certificates No felony convictions within the past five years preferred, however, background checks will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis to determine mitigating factors. May be required to have and maintain a valid and unrestricted driver’s license and proof of auto insurance. Must be able to acceptably pass a background and DSHS check prior to and periodically throughout employment. Must attend and pass WA DOL Security Guard Training within 90 days of hire. 40 - 80 hours of on-the-job training required, once hired. Must have a valid and current NarCan, CPR/FA Card/Certification Within 90 of hire. Other Requirements Must demonstrate a sensitive to and knowledge of Native American customs, traditions and culture. Must maintain appropriate and ethical boundaries with program patrons. Understanding of effective verbal de-escalation techniques, and ability to effectively verbally deescalate individuals in crisis. Ability to handle high levels of stress effectively in a busy environment. Must demonstrate an ability to use effective teaching and modeling methods while interacting with program patrons. Must demonstrate an ability to remain calm while working in crisis situations. Must deal with the public in a tactical, pleasant and courteous manner. Must demonstrate and maintain a commitment to respecting the confidential nature of the program. Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of HIPAA and other relevant Puyallup Tribal policies. Effectively incorporates confidentiality into daily work habits. Must be willing to attend training and classes as recommended and directed by Supervisor. Required to maintain a predictable and reliable schedule during required work shift. May be required to cover other shifts as required by supervisor.
