Job Summary

A well-established structural engineering firm is seeking a Structural Project Engineer to join its growing team in El Cajon, CA. This direct hire opportunity is ideal for an engineer with 3 or more years of structural design experience who wants to contribute to a diverse mix of commercial, residential, renovation, tenant improvement, and retrofit projects.

The Structural Project Engineer will be involved from concept through construction, working closely with architects, engineers, and project stakeholders to deliver practical, code-compliant structural solutions. This is a strong opportunity for someone who enjoys technical design, field coordination, and seeing projects move from drawings to completed construction.

Key Responsibilities

- Design structural systems for new construction, renovation, tenant improvement, and retrofit projects.
- Prepare structural calculations, specifications, reports, drawings, and construction documents.
- Coordinate with architects, multidisciplinary engineering teams, consultants, and project stakeholders throughout project development.
- Use Autodesk Revit, structural analysis software, and drafting tools to create and refine engineering plans.
- Perform site visits, field investigations, construction observations, submittal reviews, and RFI responses.
- Support project proposals, scopes of work, fee estimates, scheduling, and coordination while managing multiple assignments.

Compensation and Benefits

- Salary range: $85,000 to $105,000 per year, depending on experience.

Required Qualifications and Skills

- Design structural systems for commercial, residential, renovation, and retrofit projects.
- Prepare structural calculations, construction documents, reports, and technical specifications.
- Coordinate project work with architects, engineering teams, and construction stakeholders.
- Conduct field observations, review submittals, and respond to RFIs during construction.

- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- Minimum of 3 years of structural engineering experience.
- California Engineer-in-Training certification required.
- Experience designing concrete, steel, wood, and masonry structural systems.
- Proficiency with Autodesk Revit, structural analysis software, and drafting software.
- Strong working knowledge of California building codes and structural design standards.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and priorities while maintaining accuracy and quality.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across project teams.

Preferred Qualifications

- Professional Engineer license preferred.
- Experience with commercial, residential, tenant improvement, renovation, and seismic retrofit projects.
- Prior experience supporting proposals, scopes of work, fee estimates, and project coordination.
- Strong interest in continued technical growth and long-term career development in structural engineering.
