Education Specialist Literacy, Language and Academic Support

Assist with the implementation and delivery of literacy, language development, and academic support programs designed to improve student achievement. Provide leadership and support for reading, writing, English Language Acquisition services, academic interventions, curriculum implementation, assessment practices, professional development, and related academic initiatives throughout the district.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from a college or university accredited by an organization recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or by the United States Department of Education in Education, Criminal Justice, Public Administration or a related field.

Five years full-time, wage-earning classroom or correctional education experience.

Valid Texas teaching certification and ESL certification required; Principal/Mid-Management Certification, or valid out of state equivalent certification preferred.

Demonstrated experience supporting literacy instruction, reading intervention, language development, English Language Acquisition, English as a Second Language, curriculum implementation or instructional coaching preferred.

This position requires personal technology that will enable the completion of job duties and responsibilities when working remotely.

Special Knowledge/Skills

Extensive knowledge of literacy development, reading and writing instruction, language acquisition, and evidence-based instructional practices.

Extensive knowledge of English Language Acquisition methodologies, instructional strategies, and program implementation.

Knowledge of curriculum design, instructional strategies, assessments, and interventions that support diverse learners and varying levels of academic readiness.

Knowledge of adult learning theories and the ability to design, facilitate, and support blended, virtual, and job-embedded professional learning experiences.

Proficiency in the use of computers and peripheral equipment; working knowledge of personal computer and network hardware, operating systems, software applications, digital curriculum resources, learning management systems, and instructional technology tools.

Skill in analyzing and interpreting assessment, student performance, and program implementation data to guide instructional improvement.

Skill in interpreting and applying rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.

Strong communication, public relations, collaboration, and interpersonal skills within a diverse community.

Skill in planning, coordinating, and implementing large-scale professional learning activities and literacy-focused initiatives.

Skill in facilitating collaboration, sharing information, and coordinating efforts across departments, campuses, and external partners to improve program implementation and service delivery.

Ability to support educators in implementing evidence-based literacy, language development, and student engagement practices.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with district staff, correctional partners, postsecondary institutions, community organizations, and other stakeholders to support student success and program objectives.

Ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders and provide consultation, coaching, and technical assistance to educators and administrators.

Ability to design, facilitate, and support blended, virtual, and job-embedded professional learning experiences.

Major Responsibilities and Duties

1. Provide leadership and support for district literacy, reading, writing, language development, and English Language Acquisition initiatives.
2. Design and deliver professional development focused on literacy instruction, language acquisition, academic interventions, student engagement, and evidence-based instructional practices.
3. Assist educators and administrators with implementing literacy curricula, reading and writing interventions, English Language Acquisition programming and language development strategies.
4. Provide targeted support and professional development to campuses serving large concentrations of English Language Learners to strengthen language acquisition, literacy development, instructional effectiveness and student achievement.
5. Analyze literacy, language acquisition, assessment, and student performance data to identify needs and recommend instructional improvements.
6. Collaborate with district administrators, educators, principals, community partners, and correctional stakeholders to improve literacy and language development services.
7. Support the development, implementation, and evaluation of academic intervention programs designed to increase literacy achievement and student success.
8. Review district literacy, language development, and English as a Second Language and English Language Acquisition procedures to make recommendations for program improvement and alignment with state and federal requirements.
9. Coordinate literacy, language development, and academic support initiatives, including special projects as assigned.
10. Collaborate with Regional Academic and Instructional Technology Specialists in the implementation of instructional technology initiatives, providing coaching, professional development and technical guidance related to digital learning tools and English Language Acquisition resources.
11. Travel extensively throughout the district.
12. Perform other duties as assigned.
