Certified ASL Interpreter - Secret Clearance

Schedule:

Ad-hoc position. Work schedule will vary based on Government interpreting requests. Assignments may occur during normal business hours, Monday through Friday, with occasional support for meetings, trainings, interviews, briefings, special events, and other official Government activities.

The interpreter must maintain availability to support scheduled assignments and short-notice requests as required. Work may be performed onsite at the DLA Headquarters McNamara Headquarters Complex, Fort Belvoir, Virginia, or other approved locations within the designated service area.

Summary:

The Certified ASL Interpreter – Secret Clearance / Specialty will provide professional American Sign Language (ASL) interpreting services in support of Deaf and Hard of Hearing employees, applicants, and customers within a secure federal government environment.

This position supports assignments requiring an interpreter who possesses both the required ASL interpreting qualifications and a minimum Secret security clearance. The interpreter will facilitate accurate communication during meetings, training sessions, interviews, briefings, and other official activities while maintaining strict confidentiality and compliance with Government security requirements.

The interpreter will follow professional interpreting standards, including the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) Code of Professional Conduct, while ensuring reliable and accessible communication services.

Requirements:

• Active ASL interpreter certification or qualification from an approved organization, including:
  • RID NIC, NIC Advanced, NIC Master, CI, or CT certification; or
  • NAD Level III, IV, or V certification.
• Active Secret security clearance or ability to obtain and maintain the required clearance when requested by the Government.
• Professional experience providing ASL interpreting services in government, professional, technical, or secure environments.
• Ability to interpret between spoken English and American Sign Language (ASL).
• Ability to provide various interpreting modes based on consumer requirements, including:
  • ASL
  • CASE
  • PSE / Contact Sign
  • SEE
  • Voice interpreting
• Strong confidentiality, professionalism, and ethical judgment when handling sensitive information.
• Ability to comply with Government security procedures, facility access requirements, and privacy regulations.
• Ability to successfully complete required security screening, background investigation, and Government access requirements.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work independently.
• Reliable attendance and ability to respond to scheduled assignments.

Duties:

• Provide certified ASL interpreting services for Government meetings, training sessions, interviews, briefings, and other official events requiring communication access.
• Interpret spoken English into ASL and ASL into spoken English accurately and professionally.
• Support Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals in a secure federal workplace environment.
• Perform specialty interpreting assignments requiring a Secret clearance when requested by the Government.
• Maintain confidentiality of all sensitive, proprietary, and Government information encountered during assignments.
• Follow the RID Code of Professional Conduct and maintain professional interpreting standards.
• Coordinate with scheduling personnel regarding assignment availability, confirmations, cancellations, and changes.
• Report to assigned locations on time and coordinate with the designated Government point of contact upon arrival.
• Follow all facility security requirements, including identification, access control, and badge procedures.
• Support virtual interpreting assignments when authorized by the Government.
• Maintain accurate records associated with completed interpreting assignments.
• Notify appropriate personnel regarding assignment changes, early completion, or situations requiring reassignment.
