Custodian / Janitor

The Custodian/Janitor is responsible for performing routine and deep-cleaning duties throughout the facility to maintain a clean, sanitary, safe, and professional environment. This position includes restroom sanitation, floor care, glass cleaning, waste removal, supply replenishment, and responding to spills or other cleaning needs. The ideal candidate is dependable, safety-conscious, detail-oriented, and comfortable performing physically active work throughout the shift.

Restroom Cleaning & Sanitization

• Clean and sanitize toilets, urinals, sinks, counters, partitions, fixtures, and other restroom surfaces.
• Replenish soap, paper towels, toilet paper, and other supplies.
• Mop and disinfect tile floors using appropriate commercial cleaning products.
• Empty trash receptacles, clean bins, and replace liners as needed.
• Maintain restrooms to established cleanliness and sanitation standards.

Floor Care

• Sweep, scrub, and mop hard flooring, including tile, concrete, and other surfaces.
• Vacuum carpeted areas, common spaces, hallways, offices, and other assigned areas.
• Operate floor-care equipment such as industrial buffers, automatic scrubbers, and wet/dry vacuums after appropriate training.
• Address spills promptly and place appropriate safety signage when floors are wet.

Window & Glass Cleaning

• Clean interior windows, glass partitions, entrance doors, mirrors, and display surfaces.
• Remove fingerprints, smudges, dirt, and debris using appropriate cleaning products and equipment.
• Dust and clean windowsills, ledges, frames, and surrounding areas.

General Janitorial Duties

• Empty trash and recycling containers throughout the facility and transport waste to designated disposal areas.
• Respond promptly to spills, accidents, and special or emergency cleaning requests.
• Clean and maintain common areas, offices, entrances, hallways, and other assigned spaces.
• Properly use, store, and maintain cleaning supplies, chemicals, tools, and equipment.
• Monitor cleaning supply levels and notify appropriate personnel when supplies need to be replenished.
• Identify and report maintenance concerns such as leaking faucets, damaged fixtures, burned-out lights, or other facility issues.
• Follow established safety, sanitation, and infection-control procedures.
• Perform additional custodial and facility-cleaning duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Previous commercial, hospitality, institutional, or industrial cleaning experience preferred.
• Ability to safely use commercial cleaning chemicals and follow product instructions and safety procedures.
• Ability to learn and safely operate janitorial and floor-care equipment.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
• Dependable attendance and ability to complete assigned cleaning tasks within required timeframes.
• Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and coworkers.
• Ability to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, or varying shifts as required.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift.
• Ability to frequently bend, stoop, kneel, reach, push, pull, and perform repetitive movements.
• Ability to lift and carry up to approximately 40–50 pounds.
• Ability to push cleaning carts, trash containers, and floor-care equipment.
• Ability to safely perform physical cleaning duties for the duration of the scheduled shift.
• Ability to wear required personal protective equipment and follow applicable workplace and chemical-safety procedures.
