POSITION SUMMARY

The Mechanical Superintendent is responsible for the day-to-day field execution of all mechanical construction activities on assigned projects. This role provides direct leadership to field personnel and subcontractors, ensuring work is performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project specifications, quality standards, and schedule requirements.

The Mechanical Superintendent serves as the primary field leader for mechanical scopes of work, coordinating closely with project management, engineering, quality, safety, and subcontractor teams to drive successful project delivery. This position plays a critical role in workforce planning, productivity management, schedule adherence, quality control, and maintaining a strong safety culture on-site.

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead and supervise all mechanical construction activities, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project schedules and specifications.
• Direct and coordinate field crews, subcontractors, and craft labor to achieve project objectives and productivity targets.
• Develop and execute short-term and long-term work plans to support project milestones and overall schedule performance.
• Coordinate daily field operations with Project Managers, Construction Managers, Engineering, Quality, and Safety teams. 
• Monitor workforce productivity, manpower utilization, and installation progress, implementing corrective actions as necessary.
• Review construction drawings, specifications, installation procedures, and work packages to ensure proper execution of mechanical scopes.
• Conduct daily field inspections to verify workmanship, quality standards, and compliance with project requirements.
• Identify and resolve field issues, including design conflicts, material shortages, scheduling challenges, and resource constraints.
• Ensure all work is performed in compliance with company safety policies, OSHA regulations, site-specific requirements, and industry best practices.
• Participate in daily planning meetings, safety briefings, subcontractor coordination meetings, and progress reviews.
• Assist with material planning, equipment utilization, and logistics coordination to support uninterrupted field operations.
• Support commissioning, testing, turnover, and project closeout activities for mechanical systems.
• Maintain accurate records related to manpower, production, field progress, safety observations, and quality inspections.
• Communicate project status, risks, manpower needs, and schedule concerns to project leadership on a regular basis.
• Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• Minimum of 5 years of experience supervising mechanical construction activities within utility-scale solar, renewable energy, industrial, power generation, heavy civil, or commercial construction projects.
• Proven experience managing field crews and subcontractors in a fast-paced construction environment.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical installation methods, construction sequencing, equipment installation, piping systems, structural assemblies, and commissioning activities.
• Thorough understanding of OSHA regulations, construction safety standards, and hazard recognition practices.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, schedules, and contract documents.
• Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Experience coordinating multiple work fronts while maintaining schedule and quality expectations.
• Proficiency with construction management software, daily reporting tools, and Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to effectively manage workforce planning, labor productivity, and field resource allocation.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel as required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Previous experience as a Mechanical Superintendent, General Superintendent, Foreman, or similar field leadership role.
• Experience in utility-scale solar construction or renewable energy projects.
• OSHA 30 certification or equivalent safety training.
• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred but not required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT / JOB CONDITIONS

• This position is primarily field-based and requires extensive time on active construction sites.
• Frequent travel and extended stays at project locations may be required.
• Work is performed outdoors in varying weather conditions and may involve exposure to construction equipment, elevated work areas, uneven terrain, and other typical construction site conditions.
• The position may require extended work hours, weekends, and schedule flexibility to meet project demands.
• Travel requirements may exceed 50% depending on project assignment and business needs.
