Loan Assistant Working Title: Loan Assistant Role Title: Education Support Spec III Role Code: 29144‑SW FLSA: Nonexempt Pay Band: 04 Position Number: 277W0350 Agency: Paul D. Camp Community College Division Work Location: Franklin, VA (City) – 620 Position Type: Full Time or Part Time (Part Time). Telework options subject to change based on business needs. No bilingual or multilingual skills required. Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 2:00 PM. Wage position limited to no more than 1,500 hours during the 12‑month period of May 1 – April 30, regardless of the hire date. The wage employment period resets on May 1 of the following year. All wage employees are limited to working no more than 29 hours per week on average over the 12‑month period. This wage position offers no state benefits. Responsibilities Customer Service: Provide excellent customer service in person and using technology such as telephone, email, Zoom meetings, etc. Loan Assistance: Provide backup to the Loan Officer (located on Suffolk campus) to serve as the point of contact on the Franklin campus for students. Assist with financial aid advising, working closely with other departments to ensure a seamless student experience. Coordinate Federal Work‑Study (FWS) Program on the Franklin campus: Manage the student employment program from posting job descriptions to reconciling funds. File Maintenance: Create and maintain files and spreadsheets to track students. Use scanning software to manage documents. Administer Funds: Analyse financial aid problems and take corrective action. Authorise, disburse, and assist with reconciliation of loans, grants, and scholarships. Other Duties: Travel and other duties as assigned. Qualifications (KSA's) Experience with word processing and spreadsheet software (e.g., MS Office Suite). Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service while maintaining confidentiality. Ability to work and make decisions under pressure with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail, while maintaining composure. Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment, adapting quickly and easily to competing deadlines. Effective communication skills, both oral and written, including public speaking. Experience maintaining accurate, complete and up‑to‑date client files and records. Capacity to establish goals and priorities and make decisions based on established business processes. Experience interpreting and applying government regulations, guidelines, policies and procedures. Willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed to assist students during busy peak periods. Familiarity with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Additional Considerations Work experience in higher education areas such as financial aid, academic/career coaching, or advising. Experience using tools such as EAB Navigate, PeopleSoft Student Information System (SIS), and Canvas. Knowledge of federal and state financial aid programs, Direct Loans in particular. Understanding of the needs of disadvantaged and first‑generation students. Experience working with military or veterans populations. Other Information Operation of a State Vehicle: No Supervises Employees. No Required Travel. Travel between all campuses.
