GSC Business Manager

Role Overview The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing salaried group leaders in the implementation and execution of established business processes within the Global Supply Chain organization. This role involves fostering an atmosphere of teamwork and cooperation, applying independent judgment within the framework of GMS, with a focus on Safety, People, Quality, Responsiveness, Cost, and Environment (SPQRCE). The candidate must possess the ability to address complex problems and supervise a group of salaried employees and processes. Responsibilities Coach, train, develop and evaluate employees. Assist in analyzing and solving complex manufacturing problems and obtain resources to perform operations effectively. Maintain awareness of quality standards, communicate department quality goals, and utilize resources to solve quality issues. Build and maintain good working relationships with employees, union, and management. Understand and consistently administer the National and Local Agreements between General Motors and the United Auto Workers Union. Implement and follow systems that prevent reoccurrence of known issues. Promote safe work practices and achieve objectives for ergonomics, health, safety, and housekeeping. Motivate, train and develop employees to effectively perform their jobs using standardized methods. Achieve production schedules and product requirements by applying lean manufacturing/synchronous principles with emphasis on variation reduction, cost control, and productivity improvements. Own material availability and flow from dock to line, preventing shortages and overstock through effective Min/Max, FIFO, COMMWIP, and buffer management. Lead and participate in safety walks, PIV committee activities, audits, and incident investigations, ensuring timely closure of corrective actions. Ensure appropriate floor coverage for GLs/Shift Leaders, including vacation/absence coverage planning. Use data and problem‑solving methods (root cause, 5‑Why, PFMEA/MFMEA linkage, containment) to address chronic issues in safety, quality, delivery, or cost. Required Qualifications 4 years of experience working in an automotive assembly plant. Ability to lead problem‑solving activities and leverage analytical abilities. Leadership/management experience (UAW, salaried, skilled trades or similar). Knowledge of continuous improvement processes (CIP). Must be able to rotate between all 3 shifts. Must be able to work overtime as needed (weekends and holidays). Preferred Qualifications 5+ years of experience working in an automotive assembly plant (OEM). Experience/knowledge of GM Global Manufacturing System (GMS). Global Supply Chain experience. Experience in applying quality processes to support BIQ. Bachelor’s Degree.
