Job Title: Wound Care RN Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Wound Care Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 08:00 - 16:30 Hours per Shift: 8 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years in Wound Care RN or Wound Care Coordinator roles in a hospital setting License: Must have an active state RN license Certifications: BLS certification required Must-Have: - 2 years recent wound care experience - BLS certification through the American Heart Association - NC RN or multi-state RN license Description: Manages the wound care program including standards of care and practice related to wound, ostomy, and continence patient care needs. Provides direct patient care and assistance to staff nurses. Acts as a consultative service to affiliated healthcare agencies. Develops and implements the wound care program in conjunction with national standards. Establishes standards of care, competencies, policies, and procedures for effective wound care for all clinical staff. Acts as a primary consultant to wound care clinicians. Serves as a consultant to facility staff and collaborates with physicians. Provides ongoing education to staff on products available for use in the hospital. Evaluates all wounds upon admission and ongoing to determine treatment plans. Provides consultation and/or assessment on patients with pressure injuries. Consults on any wound that does not show measurable signs of healing within two weeks. Assists the primary nurse in developing appropriate plans of care for wound management and prevention. Makes recommendations to physicians for changes to wound care orders. Reviews medical records of patients with wounds and ensures that assessments and care plans are correctly documented. Investigates adverse events related to wounds through root cause analysis and develops action plans. Participates in clinical outcome monitoring and performance improvement initiatives. Collaborates with clinical operations staff to maintain a cost-effective wound care formulary. Assists with training of new hire wound care coordinators.
