Job Description & Requirements Specialty: PCU - Progressive Care Unit Discipline: RN Start Date: ASAP Duration: 13 weeks 36 hours per week Shift: 12 hours, nights Employment Type: Travel ```html Registered Nurse (RN) Unit Information Location: Asheville, NC Unit: Cardiovascular Progressive Care (CVPC) Floor: E4 - CVPC Building: E Heart Tower General Overview The primary patient population includes those undergoing cardiovascular and vascular surgeries, such as: Open heart surgery (CABG, AVR, MVR, Bentall, TAVR) Thoracic lung surgery (lobectomy, thoracotomy) Esophagogastrectomy Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) repair (open and endovascular) Femoral-popliteal bypass Carotid endarterectomies The unit also receives overflow medical cardiology patients with conditions like heart failure, diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), chest pain, sepsis, and heart block. Number of Beds: 40 cardiac surgery stepdown beds Staff: Approximately 100 total Patient Ratios: 1:5 patients per RN, 1:13 for Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) Type of Equipment: Baxter IV pumps, CADD epidural pumps, various lifts Electronic Medical Records System: Cerner Qualifications Required Skills: Stepdown experience Telemetry experience Preferred Skills: Experience in cardiovascular and vascular surgery populations within the last year CVICU experience Typical Procedures Epidural management Chest tube management Tube feedings IV gluccomander Management of cardiac medications (phenylephrine, dobutamine, dopamine, milrinone, cardizem, amiodarone, insulin, heparin, nitroglycerin, ketamine) Best Personality Fit Team player Enjoys a fast-paced environment Flexible Certifications ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) BLS (Basic Life Support) Floating Areas Willingness to float to any stepdown unit (1:5 ratios) or medical-surgical unit (1:6-7 ratios), as well as to the ER inpatient holding area (1:6). Dress Code Scrub Color/Attire: All navy, white tops with navy bottoms, or entirely white. Weekend and Holiday Requirements No on-call duties.
