Project Overview:

Bechtel is building a semiconductor manufacturing plant in New Albany, Ohio. Bechtel will design and build Phase 1 of the Ohio One project, a total of 2.5 million square feet, including 600,000 square feet of cleanrooms. Construction will require as much steel as eight Eiffel Towers and as much concrete as the tallest skyscrapers. Bechtel will strengthen future economic development in the region by partnering with the North America Building Trades Unions and suppliers to create several thousand new jobs and work with local education organizations to implement new training programs that will support the future talent pipeline.

Job Summary:

Lead Architectural Field Engineer will assist the construction team in the technical aspects of the civil and architectural scope. Individual will provide direct support to superintendents, craft professionals, and subcontractors. Scope includes, but not limited to, work package creation and maintenance, quality control, quantity verifications, material take-offs, material verifications, design change coordination, and general problem solving – all in support of meeting project cost and time schedules.

The project involves a significant concrete and architectural scope. Candidate should be well versed in concrete operations and American Concrete Institute (ACI) Codes and Standards, with emphasis on concrete finishing, curing, and patching. Candidate should understand architectural systems and be able to organize and coordinate between concrete operations and architectural installations. Candidate should have experience designing or constructing building systems such as drywall, wall paneling, ceiling systems, light metal framing, doors, gates, and enclosures. Candidate should be able to proficiently work in high-paced environments and manage change while upholding Bechtel Safety and Quality standards. 

Major Responsibilities:

• Coordinates with engineering on constructability and design issues relating to commodity installations and work sequencing.
• Provides field engineering support and assistance to superintendents, supporting personnel in meeting cost and time schedules, verifies materials, equipment, and quality, and assures results meet design requirements.
• Develops work plans, coordinates material take-offs and requisitions, performs and documents inspections, reports progress, and resolves conflicts in design and construction related to the installation and testing of civil commodities, Assures procedural compliance, material control, and complete and thorough documentation of inspections for completed work.
• Directs or performs preparation of quantity listings of field purchased material and equipment and initiates requisitions for field material purchases.
• Supports planning and delivery of construction materials and equipment, assuring that proper warehousing and storage exists to ensure environmental protection. 
• Reviews specifications, purchase orders, subcontracts, inspection reports, delivery schedules, instruction manuals, and technical data to assist and advise on site.
• Oversees and coordinates subcontractor work efforts and subcontract changes and interfaces.
• Assists the Area Field Engineer in the management of the architectural scope and Architectural Field Engineers. 

Education and Experience Requirements:

• Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

• Thoroughly understands architectural plans, elevations, and specifications, ensuring that field installations match the design intent and comply with all relevant codes and standards.
• Skill to confirm that all architectural materials and finishes meet the specified requirements. Oversee inspections and testing as needed to validate quality of installed architectural components or systems.
• Experience is conducting regular site inspections to verify adherence to architectural details, focusing on critical aspects like waterproofing, insulation, and finish treatments.
• Previous understanding of the process to document non-conformances and initiate corrective actions.
• Ability to collaborate closely with architects, structural engineers, MEP teams, and subcontractors to resolve design conflicts, adapt to site conditions, and maintain architectural integrity.
• Experience identifying field issues such as material defects, dimensional discrepancies, or design conflicts. Implement timely solutions and integrate lessons learned into future project phases.
• Experience working with or designing building systems such as drywall, wall paneling, ceiling systems, light metal framing, doors, gates, and enclosures.
• Working knowledge of ACI 301, 318, 117-10, 305R, 306R.
• Familiarity with Bechtel Standard Applications (BSAPs), including TEAMWorks, Infoworks or Aconex, BPS or DSCS, PTR or Unifier, Agile, Navisworks, and other automation tools used on Bechtel projects.
• Computer literate in word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
• Excellent communication and problem-solving ability. 
• Understanding of applicable Bechtel work processes, including Standard Work Process Procedures, is preferred.
• Experience in semiconductor fab facilities is preferred.
• Experience in clean room construction.
