Project Overview:

Bechtel is building a semiconductor manufacturing plant in New Albany, Ohio. Bechtel will design and build Phase 1 of the Ohio One project, a total of 2.5 million square feet, including 600,000 square feet of cleanrooms. Construction will require as much steel as eight Eiffel Towers and as much concrete as the tallest skyscrapers. There will be over 4,000 modules to be fabricated, erected and tested in FAB building alone.

Bechtel will strengthen future economic development in the region by partnering with the North America Building Trades Unions and suppliers to create several thousand new jobs and work with local education organizations to implement new training programs that will support the future talent pipeline.

Job Summary:

The Area Lead Modules Field Engineer (ALMFE) serves as the primary field engineering lead responsible for the successful receipt, assembly, installation, testing, and turnover of modules in the FAB building. Acting as the key technical interface between Construction, Engineering, Quality, Startup, Materials Management, Logistics, and OSM stakeholders, the ALMFE is responsible for coordinating the planning and executing all field activities associated with module installation and completion. This role ensures modules are assembled safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project specifications, quality requirements, and schedule commitments. The ALMFE drives resolution of field issues, manages carryover and work-to-go scope, coordinates module interfaces with adjacent systems and commodities, and leads the engineering and construction efforts necessary to achieve mechanical completion, system turnover, and startup readiness. Strong leadership, technical problem-solving, and collaboration skills are essential to ensure predictable outcomes related to safety, quality, schedule, and cost.

Major Responsibilities:

• Serve as the technical lead for module assembly, installation, and field completion activities following turnover from the OSM Turnover Manager.
• Develop and manage module assembly, completion, and turnover plans to support construction execution, startup requirements, and overall project milestones.
• Coordinate module receipt, inspection, preservation, logistics interfaces, and readiness for installation with Construction, Logistics, Materials Management, and Quality teams.
• Lead resolution of module punch items, carryover work, field nonconformances, design changes, and incomplete scope transferred from the fabrication yard.
• Manage field engineering support for module setting, module-to-module connections, commodity tie-ins, and interfaces with structural, mechanical, piping, electrical, instrumentation, HVAC, fire protection, and process systems.
• Coordinate and prioritize engineering deliverables, field change requests, RFIs, and technical clarifications required to support module completion and turnover.
• Ensure work packages, installation work plans, testing packages, turnover packages, and completion documentation are developed and executed in accordance with project procedures.
• Work closely with Startup, System Owners, Quality, and Construction Supervision to ensure modules achieve mechanical completion, system completion, and turnover readiness.
• Monitor subcontractor and direct-hire performance related to module completion activities and ensure work is executed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, safety requirements, and quality standards.
• Support planning and forecasting of labor, equipment, materials, and field engineering resources required to achieve module completion objectives.
• Coordinate material shortages, replacement materials, field-fabricated items, and procurement support necessary to close out module work-to-go items.
• Utilize project systems and digital tools including BIM models, Power BI dashboards, TeamWorks, DSCS, Aconex, turnover databases, completion systems, and construction reporting tools to monitor module status and communicate performance metrics.
• Identify and mitigate risks associated with module installation, field execution, interface management, startup readiness, and schedule recovery.
• Facilitate daily coordination meetings with Construction, Engineering, Startup, Quality, Logistics, and subcontractors to drive issue resolution and maintain execution alignment.
• Provide leadership in maintaining configuration control between module fabrication documents, field changes, as-built conditions, and turnover documentation.
• Support final system testing, commissioning, walkdowns, punchlist closeout, turnover activities, and handover to Startup and Operations.

Education and Experience Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of related experience; or 12-14 years of relevant industry experience in lieu of a degree.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

• Strong understanding of modular construction, OSM execution strategies, and module assembly practices.
• Demonstrated experience leading field engineering and construction coordination activities.
• Knowledge of turnover, system completion, startup, and commissioning processes.
• Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and coordinate across Engineering, Construction, Quality, Startup, Materials Management, and Logistics organizations.
• Strong technical problem-solving and field issue resolution skills.
• Experience with work packaging, Advanced Work Packaging (AWP), turnover systems, and completion management.
• Proficient in BIM/model review tools, Aconex, Power BI, DSCS, TeamWorks, and Microsoft Office applications.
• Working knowledge of subcontract management, material management, logistics, and construction planning processes.
• Ability to influence stakeholders, communicate effectively, and drive closure of complex interface issues.
• Must be physically able to conduct field inspections and participate in project walk-downs which may require the following activities: extensive walking in and around a construction site, climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, using fall protection and other personal protective equipment (PPE), walking on elevated platforms, walking on uneven surfaces, and maneuvering around very small and/or confined spaces.
• Experience in semiconductor fabrication facilities is preferred.
• Proficiency in Navisworks Simulate and 3D model navigation is preferred.
