Backend Engineer, Govern: Threat Insights

About the Role: You will play a pivotal role in enhancing features critical to software engineers and CISOs daily. Your focus will be on building scalable systems that enable users to easily assess risks and implement mitigations across a diverse customer base. What You’ll Do: Feature Development: Develop and enhance GitLab’s product features in a secure, well-tested, and performant manner. Collaboration: Work closely with Product Management, Design, and Frontend Engineers to maintain high standards of quality. Advocacy: Advocate for improvements in product quality, security, and performance. Code Craftsmanship: Write code that adheres to internal standards, emphasizing maintainability and best practices in a high-scale web environment. Code Review and Community Engagement: Conduct thorough code reviews and ensure prompt responses to community contributions. Technical Debt Management: Identify and propose solutions to enhance team efficiency and reduce technical debt. Ownership and Deployment: Take ownership of features from concept to production, collaborating effectively within the team. On-call Support: Participate in on-call rotations to assist with product and security operations as well as urgent engineering issues. What You’ll Bring: Technical Expertise: Significant professional experience with Ruby on Rails and strong familiarity with relational databases (preferably PostgreSQL). Problem Solving: Demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical problems clearly and propose iterative solutions effectively. Performance Optimization: Experience in diagnosing and preempting performance and optimization issues. Agile Mindset: Comfortable working in an agile, iterative software development process. Communication Skills: Effective communicator who achieves consensus and provides clear updates with a positive, solution-oriented approach. Project Ownership: Proven track record of owning projects from inception to deployment.
