Type: Full‑Time Salary: $48 per hour Department: Social Science Division Job Number: 01157 - 2026 Location: Glendale, CA Closing: Continuous Responsibilities The Professional Expert will advise on curriculum design, program structure, cultural responsiveness, community partnerships, and workforce/transfer alignment to ensure the AAPI Studies program reflects current scholarship, California Area 6 Ethnic Studies standards (AB 1460), and diverse student needs. Program & Curriculum Development: Provide expert consultation in designing and developing curriculum, certificates, degrees, and courses that meet Area 6 Ethnic Studies requirements and CSU transfer standards. Ensure curriculum centers AAPI perspectives, voices, and scholarship while addressing the heterogeneity of East Asian, Southeast Asian, South Asian, and Pacific Islander experiences. Incorporate critical examination of immigration policies, model‑minority myths, anti‑Asian racism, intersectionality, and contemporary social movements. Recommend course sequencing, instructional hours, and program structure to support student learning, engagement, and transfer‑readiness. Final outcome: a complete Course Outline of Record will be completed no later than August 15, 2026. Cultural Responsiveness & Inclusive Representation: Advise on culturally appropriate content, instructional materials, and pedagogical strategies that honor diversity within AAPI communities. Support integration of regional, linguistic, religious, and socio‑cultural perspectives, highlighting historically under‑represented groups such as Southeast Asian refugees, South Asian Americans, and Pacific Islander populations. Community & Organizational Collaboration: Facilitate partnerships with local AAPI community organizations, cultural centers, advocacy groups, and scholars. Support development of guest speaker programs, cultural events, service‑learning opportunities, and student engagement initiatives that reflect authentic community experiences. Outreach, Marketing & Recruitment: Provide input on program messaging, branding, and marketing to prospective students, high schools, and community partners. Promote awareness of the AAPI Studies program as a pathway to fulfilling Area 6 requirements while supporting student enrollment, retention, and success. Program Implementation & Continuous Improvement: Provide consultation during program launch and initial implementation. Assist in defining student learning outcomes, transfer success metrics, and culturally responsive assessment practices. Prepare written recommendations, technical summaries, or reports as requested. Support ongoing evaluation to ensure program relevance, cultural authenticity, and responsiveness to emerging community and student needs. Final outcome: a timeline will be presented to the Ethnic Studies Department so that they can continue the work set up no later than August 15, 2026. Qualifications Demonstrated academic expertise in Asian American Studies, Pacific Islander Studies, or closely related fields (advanced degree preferred). Knowledge of California Area 6 Ethnic Studies requirements, CSU transfer standards, and community college curriculum processes. Deep understanding of the diversity of Asian American and Pacific Islander communities, including historical and contemporary experiences across ethnic, regional, and national groups. Experience with culturally responsive pedagogy, critical race theory, and intersectional approaches to ethnic studies. Familiarity with immigration history, racial formation, anti‑racist pedagogy, and social justice frameworks. Proven ability to work effectively with faculty, administrators, students, community representatives, and diverse stakeholders.
