Senior Mechanical Engineer | Kansas City, MO

IMEG is hiring a Senior Mechanical Engineer in Kansas City, MO, to lead large, highly complex projects as a project manager or lead engineer with minimal support required from senior staff. In this role, you will work closely with a team of engineers and consultants to provide project direction, engineering solutions, and advice to clients—delivering positive outcomes through project management, engineering analysis, design, and implementation oversight of mechanical systems for the vertical building industry. You will also support project budget expectations, lead mentoring efforts, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet project goals and client expectations.Principal ResponsibilitiesLead design efforts for the analysis of HVAC, plumbing and fire protection systems, including creating detailed designs, specifications, and calculations according to code requirements and IMEG standardsPerform site assessments and develop detailed analysis and technical reportsPartner with clients to understand needs, gather requirements, communicate technical information effectively, and build/maintain client relationships through professional communicationProvide in-process design reviews (design, calculations, specifications, and project correspondence) and implement IMEG quality control processes to ensure designs meet IMEG, industry, and client requirementsProvide technical training and mentoring; support resolution of field issues with minimal support from senior staffStay current on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices; contribute to research, development, and innovation efforts within IMEGPrioritize safety in all aspects of engineering work; identify and mitigate potential safety risks associated with mechanical systemsCollaborate with multidisciplinary teams (including other engineers, architects, and project managers) to deliver integrated solutions that meet project goalsParticipate in project interviews and project presentationsRequired Qualifications and SkillsBachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent, requiredProfessional Engineer (PE) License required10 years of experience minimum required, 12 preferred, in the building design consulting industryMastery of design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specificationsMastery of technical and analytical skills including proficiency of principles in thermodynamics, psychrometrics, heat transfer and fluid mechanics relating to mechanical design in HVAC, plumbing and fire protection systemsStrong training, mentoring and leadership skillsAbility to perform final quality control check in their area of expertiseAbility to sell work and develop client relationshipsExcellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groupsAbility to work collaboratively in a team environmentAttention to detail and problem-solving skillsEagerness to adapt to new challengesProficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and OutlookAbility to travel up to 20% with occasional overnight staysThis position is not eligible for sponsorship.Why Join Us IMEG puts people first—with a strong focus on career growth, work-life balance, and meaningful impact.
