Maintenance Mechanic

What You’ll Be Doing Comply with established job safety practices, policies, and procedures as specified in plant and corporate directives. Support and follow the guidelines of the food safety system. Troubleshoot, repair, install, erect, move, and/or dismantle all types of machinery and auxiliary production equipment. Inspect job sites and equipment to be dismantled, erected, or moved; analyze blueprints and schematics; estimate weight of loads; recommend support equipment needed. Select and transport tools, machinery, and materials needed for assignments. Fabricate sheet metal and structural units (guarding, steps, stairs, conveyors, elevators, platforms) as needed. Set units in place. Splice ropes and cables as required. Perform preventative maintenance for building and grounds. Repair and maintain all assigned machines and equipment, including preventative maintenance. Maintain an organized and clean work area. Communicate pertinent information to the next shift. Perform clean-up, painting, and housekeeping duties. Initiate, review, and follow all standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the area of responsibility. Establish and maintain effective work relationships within the department, division, group, and company. Handle stress and interact positively with others to maintain a productive work environment. Work assigned schedule or 12‑hour shifts, rotating days and nights, Monday through Sunday; be available for overtime and on‑call duties. Maintain regular and predictable attendance within assigned start and end times. Perform duties without posing a direct threat to anyone or property; mitigate risks by following safety rules. Communicate effectively, write clearly, and read and follow complex verbal and written instructions. Enforce safety rules and regulations to maintain safe and healthful working conditions. Follow company policies, procedures, practices, and standards of conduct as outlined in company manuals. Use functional and technical knowledge to accomplish job tasks at a high level. Meet knowledge, skills, abilities, physical requirements, and working conditions set forth in job responsibilities. Communicate with the emergency coordinator (EC) or environmental manager regarding environmental management activities. Understand and respond to EC directions during emergencies and implement contingency plans. Complete and maintain environmental documentation, including inspections, labeling, record keeping, and equipment maintenance. Report to the EC, EFP, or EM on the status of assigned responsibilities. Recognize, minimize, and manage waste streams; practice proper waste accumulation and storage. Comply with environmental regulations when handling hazardous and non‑hazardous materials and wastes. Proficient in metallurgy, heat treatment, welding, brazing, bending, shearing, drilling, and all assigned equipment. Understand the operating principles of all assigned equipment. Receive required on‑the‑job and classroom training. Use hand and power tools effectively and safely. Instruct and train other employees when needed. Perform basic mathematical calculations. Read blueprints accurately. Organize, plan, and prioritize tasks and meet deadlines with attention to detail. Maintain sufficient endurance to perform tasks over long periods. Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills. Work in exposure to occupational hazards such as high noise levels, chemicals, and physical obstacles. Wear appropriate safety glasses, hearing protection, clothing, and footwear as required. Climb and work in high, narrow places to position rigging, hoists, chain falls, scaffolds, jacks, and rollers. Possess and use own tools. Work in confined areas. Handle a high degree of mental effort due to frequent interruptions and changing activities. Qualifications Broad training in a related field usually acquired through high school education, GED, or equivalent work experience. Job‑related experience of 5–7 years minimum. Functional and technical knowledge of machinery operation and maintenance. Strong problem‑solving and troubleshooting skills. Ability to read blueprints, engineering drawings, and schematics. Physical ability to lift and move heavy equipment, climb, and work in confined spaces. Effective communication and interpersonal skills. Commitment to safety, environmental, and quality standards.
