POSITION TITLE

Field Studies Logistics Coordinator

Position overview and responsibilities

Renowned for its accredited research-based undergraduate field programs, Wildlands Studies seeks candidates to be a Logistics Coordinator for existing field programs or to join with a Lead Instructor on a newly established program. Wildlands Studies defines the “Logistics Coordinator” as the person responsible for assisting the instructor(s) with on-site program logistics. Duties include working with external and internal parties to organize and coordinate daily logistics of the program, including the general logistical set up of field study activities; coordination of travel, food, accommodation, vehicle, resources, guest lecturers, and other details related to the day-to-day operations of the program; daily support for the general program and participants while on the program; guidance, support, coordination on activities; and any other logistics needed. In addition, this position may be asked to provide academic content where knowledge is appropriate, and under the authority of the Lead Instructor. While the program’s leadership remains the purview of the Lead Instructor, this position may take on significant leadership duties in the Program’s logistical oversight.

Each year Wildlands Studies offers field programs studying wildlife and wildland environmental topics with an emphasis in hands-on learning and onsite explorations of critical environmental concerns. Programs take place in North America, Asia, Central and South America, South Africa and other locales. This year students study wolf populations, elephant re-entry, mountain wildlife ecology, ecosystem dynamics, conservation biology, forest resource management, and cultural sustainability. The Logistics Coordinator is responsible for significant leadership duties in the Program’s logistical oversight.

Position Qualifications

Experience coordinating and managing programs, preferably field programs, and expertise in region of program. Background checks, including a request for fingerprints, will be required for contracted program staff

DATES OF EMPLOYMENT

Year-round, academic term specific. Each program follows the university quarter system. Logistics Coordinator must be able to commit to programs offered up to eighteen months in advance.
