Assistant Director for Enrollment & Recruitment

Job Description The Assistant Director of Enrollment & Recruitment supports the School of Architecture’s strategic enrollment goals by managing undergraduate and graduate recruitment initiatives and leading the planning and execution of high-impact admissions, enrollment, engagement, and special events. This role blends enrollment management, recruitment strategy, and event operations, with a strong focus on portfolio-based admissions, prospective student engagement, and events that reflect the culture and mission of a professional design school. The Assistant Director works collaboratively with school leadership, faculty, central enrollment offices, communications, advancement, and external partners to strengthen the School’s undergraduate and graduate enrollment pipeline and deliver exceptional recruitment and special event experiences. Job is part of a bargaining unit and represented by the union SEIU, Local 200United. Education and Experience • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred. • Three plus years of recruiting experience at the college/university level. • Demonstrated experience in admissions, enrollment management, student recruitment, or related functions in higher education. • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines. • Experience working in a School of Architecture, design‑related discipline, or portfolio‑based admissions environment. • Ability to use a variety of software systems (Slate, PeopleSoft, Target X etc.), enrollment data analysis, and admissions technologies. • Experience coordinating events involving faculty, external guests, or alumni/donor audiences. • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. • Ability to work evenings and weekends and travel as required for recruitment and events. Skills and Knowledge • Understanding of higher education enrollment management and recruitment best practices. • Ability to represent the School of Architecture professionally to diverse audiences. • Strong attention to detail, discretion, and problem‑solving skills. • Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively across departments and constituencies. Responsibilities Undergraduate & Graduate Enrollment Management and Admissions: Support and execute undergraduate and graduate enrollment strategies for architecture programs, including portfolio‑based admissions review and recruitment activities from inquiry through matriculation. Coordinate application and portfolio review processes by managing submission workflows, faculty evaluations, and admissions timelines. Serve as a primary point of contact for prospective, applicant, and admitted students, providing discipline‑specific guidance and advising throughout the admissions process. Analyze admissions and enrollment data to inform recruitment, yield strategies, and graduate financial aid recommendations; process admissions letters, scholarships, research internships, and Teaching Assistantship assignments in collaboration with school leadership. Collaborate with the Graduate School, and central admissions and enrollment management offices to ensure policy compliance; and participate in recruitment travel, portfolio reviews, college fairs, and school visits, as needed, including evening and weekend events. Undergraduate & Graduate Special Events: Lead the coordination of and execute special events that support the undergraduate and graduate programs mission and visibility, such as student and community‑building events (SOA lawn party, Lunar New Year celebration, SOA fashion show, weekend design charette), family and alumni engagement (ASO auction, family weekend dean’s breakfast, SOA honors alumni panel), academic, professional, and career development (SOA student firm crawl, SOA Living Learning Communities), graduate program initiatives (student orientations, receptions, workshops, exhibitions, guest lecturers, student field trips, studio programming, advisor for the Graduate Students in Architecture organization); in addition to supporting and executing events hosted by SOA student organizations. Serve as the primary liaison for event logistics, working closely with faculty, external speakers, visiting guests, facilities, and campus partners. Manage event timelines, communications, and on‑site operations to ensure high‑quality experiences for attendees. Ensure event planning aligns with school branding, accessibility standards, and institutional guidelines. Undergraduate & Graduate Recruitment Events and Yield Initiatives: Plan and execute admissions‑related events such as open houses, admitted student programs, portfolio review days, information sessions, virtual recruitment programs, fall welcome week, Orange Preview days, and SOA new student Syracuse tours. Execute logistics for admissions, enrollment, and yield events, including scheduling, vendors and catering, space reservations, setup/cleanup, and event‑day execution. Support the Assistant Dean of Enrollment Management to evaluate the effectiveness of recruitment and yield events and provide recommendations for continuous improvement. Undergraduate & Graduate Program Operations and Communications: Oversee day‑to‑day academic and administrative operations, providing proactive problem‑solving while maintaining strong relationships with faculty, staff, students, alumni, and external stakeholders. Support admissions and event‑related enrollment reporting through accurate record maintenance and data tracking. Collaborate with communications and marketing teams to promote admissions initiatives and special events, ensuring clear, consistent, and professional communication across all platforms.
