Commissioning Authority - San Francisco, CA

The Opportunity Glumac, a Tetra Tech company, is seeking a Commissioning Authority to join our world‑class Commissioning Team in San Francisco, CA. This role offers the chance to work both in the office and in the field, performing hands‑on testing of building systems to improve performance, energy efficiency, reliability, and occupant comfort. Position Summary Commissioning is a quality assurance process that ensures building and infrastructure systems are installed and operate as intended. The Commissioning Authority will lead the commissioning process for assigned projects, from planning through execution and reporting. Essential Job Functions Conduct field functional testing. Create pre‑functional and functional checklists. Lead commissioning meetings and manage the commissioning process for assigned projects. Perform field observations and document test results. Maintain issue resolution logs and compile commissioning reports. Assist with project management duties as needed. Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards. Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness. Work in a safe manner at all times and report all health and safety incidents and concerns. Additional duties as required. Required Qualifications Bachelor's/Master's/Doctoral degree in Engineering or a related field. 5+ years of related industry experience. ANSI/ISO Accreditation Cx Certification (BCxA CCP, ACG CxA, ASHRAE BCxP). Strong knowledge of MEP system design and operation, controls, and instrumentation. Project management expertise, including scheduling, budgeting, and resource planning. Strong client‑facing and relationship management skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency in MS Office. Ability to climb ladders/stairs and lift/carry loads above 20 lbs. Ability to be on a job site for extended periods (8–10 hours). Willingness and ability to travel as needed, approximately 20 %. Valid driver's license and insurance. Preferred Qualifications Professional licensure (PE license, Energy Management, or TAB certifications) is a plus. Experience with commissioning software or ongoing commissioning tools. Experience with mechanical and/or controls. Experience with mission‑critical and life sciences projects. Electrical experience is a plus. Work Environment and Location Regular travel to project sites is required, with up to 20 % travel expected. The hybrid work environment requires two in‑office and/or on‑site days per week. All candidates must be located in and eligible to work in the U.S. Compensation Salary Range: $100,000 – $150,000 (depending on experience). Actual salaries will be determined based on location, experience, responsibilities, and qualifications.
