Phlebotomist

Overview This is a contract job opportunity. Potential for permanent. Location: Novi, MI and surrounding area (float job). Schedule: 6 AM to 6 PM, Monday–Friday, and Saturdays when needed. Candidate will work an 8 hour shift but could start as early as 6 AM or end as late as 6 PM depending on location. Projected duration: 3 months + potential for permanent. This is a float position covering a wide area of the Metro Detroit area, also covering the west side of the state (Coldwater, Jackson, Ann Arbor, and Battle Creek). Requires a clean driving record and reliable transportation. Summary: The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training and making workflow recommendations. Responsibilities Experience doing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination, updating patient information, and other related tasks. Collects and stores specimens according to established procedures. Clearly explains the venipuncture process and other specimen collection procedures (e.g., urine or fecal) in a courteous manner as required. Demonstrates technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles. Interprets physician orders and matches laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. Labels, centrifuges, splits, and freezes specimens as required by the test order. Checks test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure accuracy. Packages specimens for transport and stores samples according to required temperatures; ensures proper labeling and adherence to transport protocols to maintain specimen integrity. Complies with OSHA and DEP regulations; attends annual department trainings. Responds to inquiries by reading laboratory results and answering telephone calls. Qualifications Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state where employed as required in some states. Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
