CNC Swiss Machinist

Swiss CNC Setup MachinistThe Swiss Setup Machinist will be responsible for the setup and operation of complex, close-tolerance jobs on our Swiss-type CNC lathes. They will ensure their parts meet quality standards and are responsible for 1st part approval, prior to turning over the machine to an operator. He or she will assist in the training of other employees as required.The goal is to produce high quality, precision turned parts by following strict manufacturing procedures and ensuring machine cycle time is optimized. A keen eye for detail and excellent problem-solving skills are essential for success in this position.Duties & Responsibilities:Set up jobs, as scheduled, to run on our CITIZEN, STAR or TSUGAMI Swiss-type lathes, including guide bushing setup, bar feeder loading, and sub-spindle/live-tool operations.Follow established manufacturing processes and procedures. Work with the programmer to ensure accuracy and completeness of all setup and job-related work instructions.Responsible for 1st piece approval and machine hand-off, as well as training and/or overseeing multiple operators.Ensure that cycle time expectations are met or exceeded.Make offsets, speed/feed and rapid edits as needed to further improve cycle time, tool life and quality.Inspect parts to ensure conformance to quality specifications, holding tight tolerances on small-diameter turned features using micrometers, calipers, pin gauges, optical comparators, microscopes and other measuring tools as required.Operate machines as required between setups, monitoring bar stock, coolant and tool wear during unattended or lights-out runs.Follow procedures as needed to address non-conformities.Document inspection data, outcomes or results as needed.Maintain a safe, clean and organized work environment.Applicant Requirements:Team Player – Open to new ideas and team work, self-motivated individual, willing to continually increase personal knowledge and value.Great Communication – Ability to identify problems or areas of improvement and efficiently communicate them to management and co-workers.Concentration – Position requires repetitive tasks to be completed in a specific order and any changes must be noticed.Position Requirements:Ability to read and interpret mechanical documents and drawings, including tight-tolerance turned-part prints.Minimum 2 years Swiss-type CNC setup experience (CITIZEN, STAR, TSUGAMI preferred).Working knowledge of guide bushings, bar feeders, and sub-spindle/live tooling.Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.Ability to prioritize and multi-task.Ability to work with little or no supervision.Mechanical aptitude and good math skills.Physical ability to safely lift objects up to 50lbs and stand/walk for more than 5 hours per day.
