Application Procedure: Apply online Title: Elementary Health Aide Department: Elementary Schools Immediate Supervisor: Building Principal Calendar: CLH Job Goal: Responsible to represent the school building and district in a most positive way to students, staff, parents, and total community. Responds to student health needs under the direction of the school nurse. This is a traveling position working with two elementary schools as directed by the school nurse. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Administers first aid and prescribed medical care to students. Defers care to the Principal, School Nurse, Nurse Facilitator, or other skilled health technician when situations arise that are outside of his/her scope of responsibility.
2. Responsible for control and administration of medication for students and keeping updated medical files on students in accordance with District policy. Responsible for basic first aid care for students' sick or injured; taking temperatures, calling parents, filling out accident reports, etc.
3. Responsible for performing specialized care and treatment as prescribed by medical plan on file, which may include administering insulin injections for diabetic students and/or injections for students with severe allergies. 4. Administers first aid to injured students and provides short-term care to enhance the comfort and safety of injured or ill students.
5. May be required to perform specialized procedures, after proper training, such as urinary catheterization, gastric tube feedings, diabetes management, and seizure disorder management
6. Facilitates communication with parents in sending ill or injured students home.
7. Manages clinic supplies.
8. Enters immunization records and data on the computer.
9. Clerical duties related to the administration of the nurse's office, such as typing memos/letters, etc.
10. Other duties may be assigned. Length of Contract: One hundred eighty-five (185) contract days.
Salary commensurate with experience on the negotiated agreement of the Support
Employees of Edmond (SEE).
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated by the Building
Administrator in accordance with the provisions of the Board's policies, state law,
and the negotiated agreement with the Support Employees of Edmond (SEE).
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITES:
None.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS :
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Current CPR or First Aid Certification and Diabetes training or willing to gain certification. Preferred medical knowledge or experience. Necessary training will be provided. Must be able to maintain confidentiality of information learned in the performance of duties. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED). Work in the healthcare field preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
None required. Certified Nurse Assistant credential preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups, staff, parents, and the general public.
REASONING SKILLS:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to use the mathematical skills as required. Maintain accurate records and support documentation for projects under the supervision of the position.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to use computer and computer related programs and other technologies needed to perform essential job functions. Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community. Ability to organize and chair or facilitate committees and meetings. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
