Commissioning Technician (Start-Up Refrigeration) – Henderson Building Solutions Locations: Houston – 12141 Wickchester Lane, Houston, Texas; Lenexa – 8345 Lenexa Drive, Lenexa, Kansas; Washington, D.C. – 4800 Westfields Blvd, Chantilly, Virginia; Las Vegas – 8311 West Sunset Road, Las Vegas, Nevada Position Summary Henderson Building Solutions seeks a Commissioning Technician to support field startup, testing, and troubleshooting of commercial and industrial refrigeration systems. The role may be based at any of our national offices. Key Responsibilities Create owner project requirements, construction plans, and specifications. Review drawings and maintain a record of comments. Generate checklists and tests for equipment. Make site visits to complete pre-functional test checklists. Generate site observation and issue reports. Review equipment submittals and maintain a record of comments. Perform testing, adjustment, and balancing tasks, including adjusting air and hydronic systems. Make site visits to complete functional performance tests. Generate final reports. Make site visits to troubleshoot issues. Assess equipment operation and conditions. Generate reports summarizing visits, equipment conditions, and recommendations. Develop and maintain client relationships. Set up projects and folders. Evaluate budgets to determine proper allocation of resources and time for each job. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field of engineering required, or 4+ years of experience without a relevant degree (e.g., Mechanical, Electrical, Fire Protection, or Architectural Engineering). High School Diploma or GED required. Commissioning certification preferred (NEBB TAB Tech or Cx Tech). Previous commissioning or testing/balancing experience preferred. Experience commissioning ammonia (NH3) and/or CO2 refrigeration systems preferred. Ability to reliably and predictably carry out the functions of this job. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Able to work with some degree of independence but may require frequent supervision and mentoring. Ability to understand drawings and specifications and how they translate into a building. Understanding of mechanical and electrical systems for commercial, institutional, and light industrial facilities as they relate to commissioning. Basic knowledge of automation and controls systems, HVAC systems, plumbing, fire alarm/life safety systems, lighting and lighting controls, and test and balance. Understanding of ASHRAE, ACG, and LEED commissioning requirements. Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, Revit, and Bluebeam. Ability to read and understand blueprints. Valid driver’s license. Physical & Work Environment Requirements Significant travel required – approximately 50% of time. Must be flexible and able to travel with little notice.
