Job Summary
Our personal injury law firm located in Rockville, MD (4 lawyers and 3 paralegals) is looking for a full-time Associate Attorney to help manage our high volume of litigation cases. As an Associate Attorney, you will work alongside a senior attorney on assigned cases while taking on direct client contact and court representation. Your tasks include conducting initial client consultations, drafting legal documents, managing the discovery process, and performing legal research. You will represent our clients in both District and Circuit Courts across Maryland and Virginia. While we frequently negotiate settlements on behalf of clients, we are looking for someone who can aggressively represent our clients' interests in litigation. Our ideal applicant has litigating experience, with background or exposure in personal injury, Workers' Compensation Commission, and negotiations with insurance companies.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school
- MUST BE LICENSED IN BOTH MARYLAND AND VIRGINIA
- Litigating experience required
- Experience in personal injury litigation preferred; Workers' Compensation experience is a plus
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong analytical skills and sharp attention to detail
- Ability to work effectively within a small, collaborative team environment
Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct initial consultations with potential clients and maintain ongoing client contact
- Assist with and draft legal documents, including motions, pleadings, and briefs
- Manage and assist with the discovery process by administering depositions, issuing interrogatories, and reviewing documents
- Perform comprehensive legal research for assigned cases
- Negotiate settlements on behalf of clients
- Make regular court appearances as necessary in Maryland and Virginia District and Circuit Courts
