Manager, NNI Indigenous Governance and Direct Services The Udall Center at the University of Arizona seeks a Manager for the Native Nations Institute Indigenous Governance and Direct Services program. The incumbent will act as the senior administrator for outreach and training programs, collaborating closely with NNI researchers, staff, and tribal partners. The role requires exceptional organizational, prioritization, project‑management, and communication skills. The manager must independently handle professional judgment, delegate tasks, meet deadlines, cultivate lasting relationships in Indian Country, and manage the services, projects, and constituents of the Indigenous Governance Program (IGP) and Tribal and Direct Services (TDS) programs. Experience supervising a team that develops, tailors, and implements structured training and professional development is essential. The individual will maintain and update Rebuilding Native Nations materials and facilitate IGDS programs/projects, ensuring best practices and sustained engagement. Duties & Responsibilities Manages and coordinates daily operations of IGP and TDS program activities, ensuring goals and objectives are met within time, funding, and other specifications. Determines strategic priorities in collaboration with the NNI Program Director. Leads development of action plans to implement new or revised program goals. Coordinates IGDS activities with related NNI, Udall Center, and other university programs. Trains staff and establishes performance expectations. Conducts performance evaluations and maintains professional work outputs of team members. Adheres to university procurement requirements for all services. Coordinates with the Udall Center Administrative Manager on budgetary needs. Stays current on university policies and processes. Serves as the primary client contact. Maintains and creates updated content for Rebuilding Native Nations materials. Ensures content meets constituent needs and programs maximize engagement with best practices. Edits and finalizes all IGDS summary reports and deliverables. Reports appropriate IGDS data as required. Manages and facilitates IGDS programs/projects and sets team milestones. Drafts curricular content collaboratively with the IGDS team. Adopts new tools, resources, and methods as appropriate. Completes professional development for team and individual growth. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Experienced working with American Indian, Alaska Native, or other Indigenous groups, communities, leaders, programs, or initiatives. Strong project‑management skills and the ability to implement them. Effective communication skills, both oral and written, for diverse audiences. Public speaking skills suitable for small and large audiences. Organizational and prioritization skills for self and others. Team‑work capability. Knowledge of grant proposals. Ability to solicit and manage input from diverse individuals. Proficiency in gathering information on tribal issues and producing/presenting informational materials. Extensive knowledge of contemporary Indigenous nations, governance, and history. Extensive knowledge of NNI research findings and the Harvard Project on American Indian Economic Development. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional experience. Minimum of 3 years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and work experience. Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree in American Indian Studies, Public Policy, Business Administration, Education, or related disciplines; or a Law degree. Direct experience working with American Indian, Alaska Native, or other Indigenous groups, communities, leaders, or programs. Management experience. Experience with all aspects of grant proposals. Demonstrated experience managing diverse tasks and assignments from multiple sources.
